I currently have a 2.5 inch diameter Borla xr-1 muffler on a straight through exhaust and it is not much louder then stock. I am upgrading to a 3 inch straight through exhaust and want to know if I use a 3 inch diameter 12 inch long Borla xr-1 will it be much louder? Thanks.

 

Yes it will be louder. A 3" pipe is much larger than a 2.5" pipe and therefore lets out more sound (pretty scientific heh?)

Seriously... that's why I installed 3 Borla XR-1 mufflers on my 3" turbo back exhaust.

It's quiet now!

 

Tony, you have any pics of that muffler setup?

Por951turbo, I will have the new exhaust done in about 1 month and at that point yes I will likely sell my 2.5 inch diameter borla muffler and will also try to unload my burch test pipe. I think the borla is 12 inches in lenth and just to tell you a bit more it is very, very light, compact, sounds a little deeper but will give you no performance gain over your stock muffler.
