Hi!

I'm soon going to put an aftermarket boost gauge in order to have a better idea of my current setup. Do Autometer ones worth the additionnal money?

Also, where can I find an inexpensive A-Pillar pod and at what price?

I just got the Lo-Tek pod and an Autometer boost and A/F gauge. The Autometer gauges are nice, but if they're worth the extra money is a worldwide debate with no winners. I love the gaugepod though, it fits great and is extremely nice looking:

I really, really, really like my VDO boost gauge. I had a Autometer 'phantom' (white face) gauge, now I use a VDO Cockpit (black face).
The VDO gauge is black-lit, whereas most autometer gauges are front-lit. At night, the VDO is much more readable. If your going to pod-mount it (on the a-pillar, for example), be sure to link it to the interior light adjuster. At night, a pod mounted gauge stuck at full brightness can be a little annoying...

The VDO seems acurate, handles vibrations quite well and was increably cheap ... somewhere near $25 bucks...

I'm also using the VDO. It was inexpensive compared to the Autometers I was looking at. It also appears stock as it matches the factory gauges very well. It is also very sturdy and well made. As was mentioned above, the visibility at night is excellent. I'm running the bulb without the included color covers and it is perfect. Try <a href="http://www.egauges.com." target="_blank">www.egauges.com.</a> Their price was very good (around $27).

I have had both VDO and Autometer gauges, and I prefer the VDO. They are more stable, needles don't vibrate, no noises, they are smooth acting, and they look stock.

I really don't know how it is you guys think the VDO gauges match the Porsche's VDO gauges - the fonts are TOTALLY different! The autometer (if it were black-faced with white font) would be a ringer for the stock stuff. I tried to get some group interest last year in a bulk buy of Autometer gauges custom run to match the Porsche stock VDO stuff (I got an email back from Autometer asking to discuss it further over the phone), but no one seemed interested.

As far as color combinations AND fonts go, HKS is the ONLY boost gauge I've seen that matches the stock VDO gauges.

BTW, shame on VDO for not manufacturing an option to go with ALL the gauges they put in factory applications throughout the 80s!

I just put in an autometer phantom white face boost gauge and I have no complaints. My only regret is not getting a one with peak hold. I don't feel comfortable looking at the gauge while at WOT. Check out the greddy gauges; they have peak hold and an alarm you can set. Pretty nifty.

Yea.. the fonts are a bit diffrent, but not too bad. The trim rings on the Autometers do not look right, they are too big.

Mike... it will look nice parked at 20psi! 25 if I am really crazy on the dyno! It was pretty hard to find this gauge too.. most all VDO stuff stops at 25. Just something a little diffrent.

Oh, and for the lighing, the VDO stuff was pretty close to my stock lights. I now have LED's in everything, so it all matches fine for me.

Say P-man, your gauges sure would be more secure with a gauge panel.....

Email me the dimensions of that VDO gauge and I'll cut you one out of aluminium that will fit in the factory hole where yours are and use the two screws to mount it visible when you slide out the black tray.
I already have the ARM dimension..

btw, how's it coming..?
Any chance of us taking that "test spin" around IndyGP time this year...?

Been a while. I have pondered using a gauge panel for a little while. I like this setup since it keeps the pocket. (storage for phone, change, etc) I do like the looks of the panels, and I would powder coat one to match the rest of the car.

If you wanted to knock one out for me, I'd be happy to send you a couple bucks.

VDO = 52mm
ARM = Who knows
MBC = ???

Anyone know the dimention of the Turbonetics MBC? (Same one everyone sells)

Oh... not sure on Indy this year. It might be done, but I am not sure if it will be tuned by then. Hope so.

i _much_ prefer my VDO over the autometer's ive seen. i had auto meter for air-fuel, and sold it to a friend cuz i wasn't thrilled w/ how it looked. now, if you went all autometer it might be ok, but VDO just matches our style gauges SO well...... i'll have pics of my car's interior... some day
