Just a note, I've used both toulene as well as xylene as an octane enhancer for my 13.5:1 compression drag motor, mainly because we have it at work in 55gal drums and I can't always get out to the track to buy race gas when I'm doing a little tuning (our parking lot used to pull double duty as a launch pad LOL) In both cases the motor performed well and I noticed no signs of detonation, however I never made a full 1/4 mile run on the stuff. I you have a choice use xylene since it has a higher boiling point and therefore produces less harmful vapors into the air (within the same amount of exposure time) both are carcinogens last I checked though so keep exposure to a minimum. Acetone has a very low boiling point and produces a lot of vapor, I don't recommend it as an octane enhancer.

I have Sunoco GT-Plus (104 octane unleaded) shipped to my house, or shop. There are quite a few dist. in CA. In No. CA., I used Paul oil out of Oakdale (209) 847-2281. Ask for Tim. In So. CA., Downs out of Corona is one suppplier (909)737-9866. There is another named Trackside @ (714) 895-1190.

Hmm, my apartment manager might object to my storing drums of gasoline. I'll have to check my lease.

I just read about another octane booster called ANILINE. Anyone heard of it?

The charts showed that only a 4% mixture added 3 octane. For that, I assume it is very expensive and/or hard to get a hold of

The measure you should really use is $/octane boost/tank. Here's a review of octane boosters:

I just purchased 2 more barrels of Sunoco GT-Plus. The price went up .08 a gallon to $3.74 from Downs in Corona, CA. I spoke tyo them about the Toluene. They told me that the grade of Toluene that they use is far superior to what is sold over the counter. I realize that most peaole would feel uncomfortable with a barrel of fuel at their residence. Keep in mind that you only use one outlet on a drum and your gas tank has at least three. I've been doing this for 8 years and have found it to be, by far, the safest, most convenient & reliable way to ensure the motor is receiving the right octane.

86,

What percentage mix do you run the GT gas?

FYI I read that for every pound of boost you run right before kock, if you want to increase a pound, you need 3 more octane per pound of boost you increase <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
