Post Ever See This?

So I finally pulled the head from my motor and drained the oil and well... They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here you go...

Just in case it's not apparent, that's a rather large metal shaving covered in oil, stuck to the magnet on my drain plug.

How about this one...

This was a magnet I placed in the oil drain pan "just in case" to catch any "extra stuff". ...Boy did I catch it!

O.K. So now that you've seen it, do YOU recognize it?!

wow

thats pretty ugly.

And very thin, it looks like...

Almost like the galvanizing off of a piece of sheet metal, or chrome when it flakes off of cheap bumpers...

scary stuff, Doc.

Ouch, thats not a good sign. Definitely time for an inspection before more damage is done.

For the record,it wasn't a trick question... however you're all pretty much right. ...money out the walet, not good, rebuld time, most likely #2 rod bearing.

I mainly asked the question since I've most often heard of the rod bearing "knocking" where as mine was a grinding (as you can see). I wont be able to pull the bottom end for a couple of weeks so being the impetiant person I am, I thought I'd ask around...

I suppose we could start a pool. A buck a guess... <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

Gee that would be any easy bet since it looks exactly like mine did

Wait till you pull the pan off and actually see what's sitting on the bottom of the pan and baffling! Yikes! Your magnet is not big enough!
