Default Strut mount differences?

I have a 1986 951. I am looking into replacing my front struts with some Koni inserts. I was told that 86 Strut mounts are different than the later 87-up style. The 87 strut mounts apparently do not wear out like the early 86 ones do. Is this true? How can you tell if they are worn out?

They do wear out, just not as fast as the Earlier mounts, because the 87-up munts are still rubber, just a little more and they are angled for the late control arms/offset. I build Polyurethane inserts for the early strut tops and they do not flex under the weight of the Iron-block V8. The factory rubber mounts will sag when worn. The early ones are easy to spot with the hood open as the stop washer separates from the rebound ring on the top.
