stock boost levels...gauge vs psi
what is the ratio between the boost gauge and psi of actual boost? what should an 87 951's stock max boost top out at? coming home this morning i was having fun spooling up the turbo and was maxing out at 1 and 1/2 divisions below the 2 bar line. i thought i read somewhere that the stock max boost level was around 1.6ish, although i maybe mistaken. i was told that the car is 100% stock (bought 2 months ago), could it be chipped?
ok last 951 newbie question....my 1st oil change.. im planning on using 100% synth mobil1 15w-50, ive read in previous posts that people use the 40 wieght version but i couldnt find it anywhere. anyone ever have any issues running heavier wieght synths, im assuming not (esp in summer months)? thanks all

The highest-mileage car I've had luck putting full synthetic into and not developing leaks is 90K. Maybe I've been lucky -- I've heard recommendations on nothing older than 50K, but ya never know. Certainly take into account the condition of the vehicle...
Full synth does a good job cleaning out sludge which may have been preventing leaks previously.
I love synthetic oil, and have had great luck w/ Mobil 1 Tri-synthetic... 15w-50, I think it is.

I have seen that Halvline has a high RPM/turbo non syn that is 20w-60. For those that run it real hard in the hot states.

1 bar= 14.5 psi? again today on the ride home i was watchin boost gauge and it tops out at a little over 1.8 bar at about 3500 rpms and holds until redline. how does that fare w/ everyone elses 951 (mine a stock 87 for now), sounds extremely high considering a 1bar to 14psi ratio. this is my 1st turbo charged car so enlighten me if im missing something.

The stock Boost gauge gives " absolute " pressure.
1 bar on the stock gauge is Normal atmospheric pressure( Zero Boost)
The actual " Boost " pressure is 0.8(1.8-1.0)
You are fine.
