KLR/DME pins question?

KLR/DME pins question?
Does anyone know how many pins does a 1987 car have- how can I find out- I want to buy a set of chips from a 1988 car- the 1986 car has different pins to later cars,so I want to know if my 1987 car has the later pin type or not.
Is there an easier way to find out than taking the chips out?
any help appreciated.

Quick clarification here: '86-87 DME had 24-pin 4K EPROMS. The later '88+ cars had 28-pin 8K EPROMS (S and non-S). The fuel & ignition data was pretty much the same with the on-board ROM in the CPU disabled. This code was then placed on the EPROM along with the data. We're still looking at the differences, if any, of the program code.
You can make the chips work either way, but it's not worth the effort of modifying your chips and/or DME. However, the entire combination can be swapped across years. That is, the '86-87 cars can use the entire DME w/28-pin chips from the '88+ cars as well as the other way around.
BTW: all KLR chips are 24-pins.

thanks for info guys,
I'm getting Dannos Guru MAF kit/chip anyway, but while I'm waiting for it, I thought i might try some chips and then sell them on when the kits ready.
Maybe I should be more patient.
Danno how long b4 the kit is ready?
