Post Boost Question

I hear about changing the banjo bolt? along with a few other things. I'm new into this. What can you do to increase boost? In first and second gear I generally see 12-15 lbs and in third fourth and fifth 20 lbs on my vdo gauge. Is this normal? My car is chipped with a man boost controller and a 3 bar regulator. Thanks in advance

With the mods you have, I wouldn't set max-boost to be more than 15psi. That's really about the limit of your configuration without further upgrades for safety (larger injectors, custom dyno/chip-tuning, etc.). The only way to get identical boost in all gears is to use an electronic boost-controller.

However in cases of extreme HP levels, like Russ, Rage2, A.Coleman, etc. who are pushing 400rwhp, then having lower boost in 1st/2nd gears can actually be helpful in preventing excessive wheelspin on launches. On Bob Norwood's 1000bhp+ twin-turbo Testarossa, they actually had to dial in additional turbo-lag to get the thing to behave and be controllable...

There is really no 'one' best answer. It depends upon your goals, short-term as well as long-term, and your budget as well. Some things can be upgraded incrementally, others is either/or now or never... So what do you want?

I'm not sure how long I'm gonna keep the car but we mostly street race around here. I usually don't have too many problems with the ls1 cars but it's starting to fall off a little on power. I own a auto repair business so getting the work done isn't a problem. but I'd love 325+ at the wheels. I know I need a mass air kit. But right now the turbo is ****ting (blowing oil) so I need to come up with the best plan here. As I said this winter I will more than likely pull the motor and freshen it up or go ahead and do it up. Bore new pistons etc. Thanks <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />
