Post bought my 951

I bought my car a few days back, and have been driving it ever since.

I finally got around to putting the pics online.

btw, the PO was on rennlist somewhere.
I should look through more archives.

I can't decide whether or not to leave the racing stripes.
At first, I didnt like them, but now I am starting to really like them.

Haha, I thought it was a bit ricey too.
But it gives it a uniqueness.

I'm so torn.

Whoa! That car is outrageous, in a good way! Roll cage, seats, fire extinguisher... just leave the stripes, it's not going to look subtle anyway

You can always take them off later if you change your mind...

Yeah, my thought exactly.

Its more expensive to take em off than put em on.
I think I'll leave em.

And you're right. Its in no way subtle. Its a cop magnet.
I get stared at by every highway patrol/police like I never dreamed of.

I'm scared of getting pulled and trying to explain the cage/seats/fire point harness.
Should be interesting.

I like your wheels, do you have the brand, size, and price info? They look very agressive and match the rest of your mods. Welcome to the obsession

If you get pulled over, just tell them you use the car mostly for track driving ... should convince them that the roll cage is necessary

Just don't make them suspect you've got some offroad-only mods in there!

Yes, well . . . it all depends on your philosophy and what your after:

I for one like the racey look too, but I keep my cars as stock-looking as possible. I dont want to attract any attention that i dont need. My '87 is red - unfortunately - but it looks like a stock car in every way from the outside. If you want to look like a race car, congratulations, it does! Put some racing stickers on it to boot. You should get challenged plenty with it in that trim.

If you want to "wick it up" with-out grabbing EVERYONE"S attention, tint the rear 3 windows, remove the "styling embelishments" - i.e. stripes and get the best radar detector you can afford (either that or the best lawyer you can afford).

What kind of performance mods does it have besides those visable?

The engine was more or less stock (thats one of the reasons I bought it)

He put a new turbo on it (a small T03)
chips, k&r filter, strut brace, lindsey wastegate, mbr, and a couple other small things.
Bilstein racing shocks and some springs (not sure whose). GC camber plates. Borla exhaust and test pipe (which isnt actually on the car now)

He rebuilt the engine (actually a new block, values, and pistons and just a rebuilt head) recently.

Oh, and It came with a set of racing rims and hoosiers, 275's and 245's i think

I think the only non-California legal things are the FPR and the damn cone (which I had to put back on to smog it), I don't think any cops would notice that

He said they had to be specially made to match the offset and fit the big reds, so I have no idea where you can get em.

BTW you had better take GOOD care of that car...

I was with the PO when he first looked at it, bought it and blew the head gasket... (which is why he rebuilt it) I helped build or R&R just about everything in it. Very few like it in th states in fact one of only 2-3 known to actually have a BRAND NEW engine.

It's one DAMN good car, fast and solid! GREAT track car.. Too much for the streets unless you have better dicepline than I do. I have one almost exactly like it (Guards Red though- The one he told you about being rebuilt up in Tahoe.)

FYI if you EVER plan on turning up the boost to 18+psi, MAKE sure you have no less than 50/50 92 pump 100 octane race fuel in it. I'd hate to see it blow a head gasket.

For what it's worth I would have bought the car in a heartbeat if I had the money...

Congratulations and enjoy!!! (watch out for those tickets)

Your wheels are ATP Spa's, and they look great on your sled. Nice!
