I need to make a page to clear-up all the mis-information about Ethanol...

Gasoline BTU/gal = 114,000
Gasoline E10 BTU/gal = 111,836

So yes, per gallon there is slightly less energy in the E10 mix. However, to achieve the same AFR you need to burn 3-4% more fuel on E10.
So a conservative estimate:

111,836 * 1.03 = 115,191

So the end result is more BTUs, not less. Obviously there is a slight economy hit due to using 3-4% more fuel, but certainly not less power.

This survey needs an "other" button...

I run E85, which in the DFW metroplex, that means I buy gas at Kroger grocery store gas stations. Their 93 octane works fine too, been using Kroger gas from the station across the street from my house for many years now... Lowest prices in Texas Any time I compare. 87 octane is $2.94 today, E85 is $0.30 less no matter what the 87 cost is.

You are getting a great price on your E85, $3.56 a gallon in San Jose!

Any reason why other then "BP" ?

A mate of mine got his fuel pump replaced in his 2011 335I. Not sure if it was because he used BP fuel or because he drives it like it stole it.

I had an 07 BMW 335i and I had the fuel pump issue as well. Its a high pressure fuel pump that doesn't like the 10% ethanol in the fuel in the US. I heard BMW switched to a different fuel pump but if the 2011 model is still having the same issue they must have a bigger issue.

I put $30 of Chevron 93 octane yesterday just to see if there was a difference with the Shell I normally use, it was almost on the red, and the car feels sluggish, and not as smooth, I'm sticking with Shell for sure!

Hmmm, I've been using Chevron in my MB almost exclusively (and about 1/2 time in my other cars) because of the Techron - I kept reading about how good that stuff was. maybe I'll have to try the local Shell station some too...

In the Porsche I try to use VP whenever I can too, because there's a local station with 100 octane at the pump and I want to see it stay so support it when I can.

Base gasoline comes from the same mix of refineries regardless of brand. The only differences between them are the minuscule additive packages which are proprietary to each brand. The additives are mostly detergents and do not otherwise 'enhance' the performance of the fuel. Essentially all brands can be considered the same.
Out of the refinery - sure. What actually comes out of the pump after the transportation and storage - I'm not so sure. I only use Shell and Chevron because I don't trust that cheap gas stations will maintain the highest standards of handling and maintenance.

The latest anecdotal evidence - A few weeks ago my wife got some gas at Valero, and the car started producing a significant amount of white smoke. I was really worried that something was going out, yet I wasn't losing any coolant. After a few more tanks, the smoke is gone. Seems that this Valero station has some water/condensation contamination issues with its storage or delivery systems. I suppose it could happen at any gas station, but I trust Shell and Chevron to maintain higher standards.

Empty out the Chevron and try the Shell, let me know if you see a difference, I'm gonna stick with the Shell and just buy the Tehcron Fuel system cleaner every oil change...

I use Union 76 100 octaine. The motor runs better on a toluene mix but toluene is getting hard to find.
