Default Odd request... Request 951 wheel experts help

Gents, this is an odd request, and I have been unable to get solid answers from a few parts suppliers and unable to find answers on Rennlist.

BOTTOM LINE:

I need to fit 16" Fuchs to my 1988 951. What components would I have to purchase to make the early offsets fit the late car? Effectively I am looking to transform my late offset '88 951 to an early offset 951.

Thanks,
Matt

you need early control arms, with late spindles. and camber plates for the front.
for the rear. spacers and longer studs, or early trailiing arms with early axles. .. you might get away with running late axles, but it will be a very tight fit and will effectgetting the rear alignment dialed in.

Not speaking from experience, just what I’ve read… you’ll need early front control arms and tie rods. The rear will simply due with early hubs and brake discs. Unless you want to keep the original parts, I’d be surprised if someone with an ’86 wouldn’t trade with you.

Excellent point, I'd like to keep the original parts. But I have a set of Weidman refinished, beautiful 16x8 and 16x9 Fuchs that I want to fit to my 88. The car is perfect, the wheels are perfect... just the wrong offset. Thanks for the info.

What are you going to do for tires?

Yep - need early control arms and tie rods and camber plates wouldnt hurt for the front. In the rear the offset is just in the hub and the brake rotors. The hubs are a pain to change out in the rear - would be easier to just find some complete early trailing arms.

Tires will come after I have the 951 ready to accept the wheels. At this point, the only place I trust with the Fuchs is Discount Tire. They have always been awesome, careful and deliberate no matter which Discount Tire I was at. The wheels are absolutely perfect at this point -- still in the box.

Thanks for the info. Need to compile a parts list and get going on this project. The first and only project for "George" on the books.

Currently rides on the PDs. Nice wheels, but the Fuchs have always done it for me.

I think what he was getting at with the tires is that there are very few manufacturers making tires in the correct size anymore. Fuzion and Toyo used to be about it and now even they are phasing out their last offerings in 16".

TireRack no longer has the Fuzion. Discount Tire doesn't have anything either. Best I can find is www.tires-easy.com. Looks like they have some old new stock laying around. I'd be a bit worried about the age on them.

Trust me, I am well aware of the response of some who believe they have all the answers, which I do not care about. I am simply looking for the technical details.

Regarding tires, if I'm not mistaken, there is a ContiSport in that size. At least back when I was doing the research. I've owned the wheels for a couple years. I'm guessing the tire sizes for Fuchs are becoming hard to come by...?

Thanks for the data.

Continental has nothing available in the 245/45/16 size. And there's nothing really that will get close in a 16" diameter.

225/50/16
245/45/16

Looking at potentially having to go with a competition tire, which is not a huge negative, except the cost. But the car is only driven <600 miles a year, and only in good weather.

Odd. I just fitted an '82 930 with 7/9x16 Fuchs with ContiSports two years go. Crazy. Truly a shame if we will be unable to fit Fuchs with tires... an awesome wheel with no tires available.

That would probably work then if you don't have to worry about rain.
