Question UK 951 performance

Hello all,

I just moved to london a few months ago and I've been looking for a good shop to do modifications to a 951. I had an 89 951 before I moved here so I know exactly what I want done but it seems like there are very few shops that deal with the 951. Most seem to do work only on that "other" porsche (911's). Any help would be really appreciated.

Cool

I hear there isn't much support for the 944 series in England.

Automotive Developments (located in Bicester)was listed as a source in 911 and Porsche World.

or: Autofarm ring; 01865 331234 email; porsche@autofarm.co.uk
<a href="http://www.autofarm.co.uk" target="_blank">Autofarm</a>

Also try this <a href="http://www2.uk.porsche.com/english/gbr/dealer/default.htm" target="_blank">Porsche service centers in England</a>

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I sent autofarm an email so we'll see what they have to say. I try to steer away from porsche centers. Usually their perfomance work leaves somewhat to be desired especially for 951's. I heard of a place called 9meister. Heard any good things about them?

It does seem like there is not much support for the 951 in the UK. Actually I'm getting all my parts from the US. Maybe people here haven't realized what a performnace bargain the 951 is?

There is a thriving community waiting for you at

<a href="http://www.titanic.co.uk/944" target="_blank">http://www.titanic.co.uk/944</a> which has an email list

One of the listers brings over Lindsey parts and there are local people who can re-chip etc

Hey Dave, thanks for that web site. I looked it over but most of the stuff they have in there is basic maintenance stuff. I'm looking for a place that can do things like head porting and stuff like that. There has to be a place out there! I've seen so many super moded cars in the UK I find it really hard to believe that there isn't a place that does serious work on 951's.

Hi Folks,

I'm from Ireland originally and I've always noticed more of the "...its not a Porsche unless it has an air-cooled flat-six in the back..." kind of thinking in Ireland and the UK compared to my experience in the US. Its unfortunate.

Dave: Great site references (including your own!)

Manuel: Try - <a href="http://www.9mracing.co.uk/" target="_blank">http://www.9mracing.co.uk/</a>

If they can fabricate the following throttle bodies for a 968/S2, I'm sure they can do stuff for you 951:

You could also try contacting the following US base suppliers to see if they can recommend someone in the UK:

9 meister is ok but you will need deep pockets and he does not specialise in 944's. Prepare to pay lots of money for companies to tune your car in the UK. Autofarm just built a 944 with 303 bhp and 353 lb/ft torque. Speak to Josh Sadler there as he did most of the work, AmD did all the chip tuning work. Failing that you can email me and I will give you the number of my mechanic who is very good with 944's and can do tuning but he is not a tuning shop so to speak but he can do anything you want if you know what you want done. Good luck.

Hello all,

Yes, it does seem like there is more "ignorance" as far as the 951 goes in the UK. Not only are there almost no companies building parts for these cars, but the few places that work on porsches seem to have no experience working on these cars.

As an example there's the car that appeared in porsche world. As you said streckfu...300hp is not hard at all to get to! And that article also made a huge deal about the 951 not having piston oil squirters like the 911...well maybe its because the 951 is WATER cooled and not air/oil cooled!! There is no need to have piston squirters with 300hp!

Anyhow...I think I might just go with 9M. It seems like they can do custom stuff pretty well so I'l try them out with small stuff first and then go from there...

well it seems like my gut feeling could prove to be true. I just received this email from the guys at autofarm regarding tuning shops in the UK for the 951;

Sorry, we are not able to help with your request.
I am not aware of anybody specialising in this, in the UK.
Best regards,
Jack.

I asked if they knew of any place in the UK doing custom work like head porting and such. The search continues though...

Contact Colin at 9m. He is a distibutor for us. He can set you up with all sorts of cool SFR parts for your 944 turbo.

Thanks Tim! It really helps to know that they are a distributor for you guys. I was planning on getting your complete exhaust system, turbo, and intercooler anyhow so that really helps.

Chris Wilson <a href="http://www.formula3.freeserve.co.uk/" target="_blank">http://www.formula3.freeserve.co.uk/</a>

Thanks for the links Dave. Only problem is I'm looking for a company that has experience porting the 951 head. I would like to find someone who does not have to experiment with the port shape, the've already done a few heads and know exactly what to remove. See that is the problem...there are plenty of performance places in the uk but almost none with specific 951 experience.
