Post 2.8 stroker owners- What turbo are you using

Im interested in ifnormation about boost onset, the ability to hold boost at high rpm and torque peak RPM.

Any data appreciated. Sales pitches ignored until adequate data is produced.

And yes..i know the piston speeds are ridiculous.

Due to lack of money, I have to do my mods in staged. I have a stock 26/6 on my 2.8. All of my mods are listed in my sig. I only have 1300mi on the engine. once it is broken in I will take it to the new dyno at Autothority. So fare I am very pleased with it. I am still haveing problems with my boost controler, but that will just take some fiddilig with. I'll keep you posted

I have a stroker 2.8L and also do my modifications incrementally. I installed Lindsey Bros. used K27/6 because it was cheap, but I am looking forward to something more significant. Interested in seeing what turbos GURU will be offering in the future. I have a DeltaGate and a stage IV MAF and a manual boost controller. I for sure will be opting for the GURU stage II MAP setup in the not too distant future.

Sorry, I neglected to address some of your specific questions.

My boost comes on around 3500 rpm, peak torque feels like maybe 5000 rpm, then the car feels like it hits a wall and power just cuts out completely. Not exactly sure why. Whether its overboost protection or just the suckegg MAF setup. Suffice it to say I don't participate in any street races. Probably better that way...keeps me out of trouble.

Thats overboost protection. Do you have the fuel to back that boost up?

im running a big ball bearing T04E with an 8 hotside. It hits hard

sorry, I didn't see that you were asking about strokers. Mine is an all bore 2.8. I think I will be going for a TO4E some day, but I'm not to sure yet. I was planning on shooting for 450rwh, but after talking with Danno, I think 400rwh will be a better goal. Still not sure if I am going to go with stand alone or just a map kit. My biggest problem with telling people the difference between my 2.8 and my 951 before, is that I know my 951 was not running right before I did the knew engine. My turbo was screwed up ad sprayed oil, blow off was broken, and a few other things. This engine is WAY fster than my last one, but I don't know yet if that is due to the 2.8 or because my last one wasn't running right. All I can say for now is that at 10 psi and without going over 5k rpm, THIS THING IS FAST AS ****!

euro: I'm happy to hear your enthusiasm. Wish I could say the same.

Dooberhead (does that mean you get high alot?): I forgot to mention that I also have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, but am unsure what PSI I ought to be seeking. Right now it is set at 42 psi with the vacuum hose off. I max out about 18 pounds of boost.

How do I combat overboost protection? If infact I can.

oh, yea. that reminds me. The only thing not yet installed is the adjustable fuel pressure reg. I don't have a gauge yet, so I can't install it till I know what i'm setting it at.

Also forgot to mention that I have Huntley chips installed. Though I really hate to admit that.

Patrick, if you have our chips you can't be hitting overboost protection. So rule that out. Why don't you give us a call to go through a bit of tech support to see if we can fix the issues you are having (ugly faces, grimmices and such aside)

Yeah, I was going to say you wont have the overboost protection unless you have stock chips.

Maybe you have a vacuum leak, check your hoses.

No, I dont get high. Im in the army, they tend to frown upon that.

Thanks for the input. I knew you were serving in the Armed Forces, having visited your P-car online site. Just trying to get to the origins of "Dooberhead."

One of our customers is using our Level 3 turbo on his SFR stroker motor. It makes 328 horsepower and 350 ft/lbs at the wheels at 9.5 psi! It makes 407 horsepower and 432 ft/lbs at the wheels at 17.5 psi! I will see if I can get the dyno chart scanned so that I can post it.

This turbo is rather small for this application(because it was the same turbo we put on his 2.5L) so we put on one of our Level 4 turbos and we are waiting to go back to the dyno. I forgot to mention that this car has the A/C, power steering, full interior, etc.......This is a true street car.

If anybody wants a turbo that will rock your world, give us a call. We know what works and we know what doesnt.

Mumzer,

I have a new 106mm bore 2.8 engine, boost set at 10psi during break in stage ( manual controller )

Turbo is a non ballbearing Garrett TO4E 60 trim #8 turbine that has been Extrude Honed.

3rd gear 1600 rpm and floored from there, boost onset at 2200 rpm and 10 psi at 2900 rpm. ( Autometer Guage )

I have 900 more miles before I can turn up the boost and head for the dyno.

I know you asked for stroked but this may help

OK, so Derrek asked me to call and go through a bit of tech support. That was yesterday.

Today, I called. The receptionist chicklet put me on hold for 15 minutes. Obviously, they're a busy shop. Well, I'm a busy person, and I don't wish to be on hold that long when I'm footin' the phone bill. I hung up.

Called back a few hours later, didn't even get the chicklet, got the automated system. Punched in #208 for Tech Support, "all of our representatives are busy." Wow. ALL of our representatives. I am assuming there is only ONE and they're just fronting a semi-impressive phone system.

So, I left a message for Derrek with some explanation and my phone number. That was 1:45PM my time or 12:45PM Huntley Daylight Time. It is now 9:00 PM in Wisconsin and I have received no call back. Go ahead. Ask me if I'm surprised.
