But don't forget to change the software (eprom).

The KLR hardware is the same from the '85 951 to the '94 968 turbo S. You may also use the DME box. The later M44.52 boxes used larger eproms (28 pin 2764 instead of 24 pin 2732), but the earlier boxes were already prepared for 2764. You have to replace (solder out) the eprom socket and to set two wire bridges.

And you have to change the software again....

OK,I won an 88 KLR from an 'S'on EBAY. Are you sure I need to switch the EPROM to use this in my 88 non 'S' What would happen if I used it with the 'S'EPROM?
Thanks

"What would happen if I used it with the 'S'EPROM?"

The fuel-maps will be completely off since the flow patterns are different between the Turbo and TurboS. Send me the '88 TurboS chip and I'll send you a stock '88 non-S chip.

I though the KLR do not have any fuel maps. These are included in the DME only.
you can use the klr from all MY without a problem. It only tell to the negine when to shut of the boost/fuel and retard the timing in case of overboosting

I thought the same thing but am trusting Danno's knowlege over mine. I would hate to damage anything. It looks like my problem was the TPS, even tho it checked good to the KLR, It would still alarm out with 4-2 codes after the car got hot. I installed a new TPS last night and so far so good.
