Should I take an AOR deal, or is it transmission rebuild time?

What type of transmission mount are you using? I have a semi-solid on my car and the tranny makes a racket on decel. Box was rebuilt and has probably 30k miles on it right now. I take it as normal.. Just a noisy gearbox.

These trannys have a fair amount of slop in them and make lots of noise - especially on decel... I have been abusing my AOR (with over 100k miles) on the track for over 2 years with 400ft lbs of torque and it makes the same noise and feels the same, although I have to stop to get it into 1st gear after a track session.

Lart's price is a great deal. If I didn't have a bunch of other crap to spend money on, I would grab that thing as a spare.

I just killed an S2 tranny (R&P) and was planning on pulling my LSD and putting it into my spare S2 box. JoshB had a AOR for sale, so I bought that (same price as Lart's). I'll use the AOR for the rest of this year while I completely refresh the spare S2. Next year I'll use the S2 box for short tracks and AOR for long tracks.

Remember, you are not a true aficionado until you have either:

1. More that one spare engine or blown up engine in the garage,
2. More that one spare transmission or blown up transmission in the garage, or
3. A parts car sitting in your front yard

What is likely a pretty worn original mount. Maybe I should look at it first.

With the price of used ones, especially LART pricing, your better of buying another (IMO) save your other in case you need it for spares.

Tim, was the R/P a gradual fail, or sudden?
I'm working on getting a few spares for prestige, if not for practicality...

Sudden. Heard a noise on the last session of a track day and assumed it was a CV joint going out. Swapped the half shaft out and on my 4th lap of the next day it exploded.

Are you sure the lash is in the trans, could be that your clutch damper springs are broken.......?

It certainly could, and no, I'm not, except that I felt what seemed to be a lot of slop when I rotated the wheel in the way I mentioned.

I've been experiencing what feels like a slight bounce/vibration while accelerating at part throttle, too, and while it seems to be coming from the back of the car (I was thinking axle bolts), I can't be sure.

Looking at the Orlando Craigslist autoparts section it seems there are a lot of base 944 aficionados in the area...
