Question Is the 944 Turbo S designated a 952?

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to get the word from the experts here if the Turbo S's go by the 952 designation (probably not since this user name wasn't taken). Thanks for the info.
Happy Memorial Day!

Nope, no such thing as a 952. If you still have the original invoice sticker you will see Porsche called it a 951.

I'm not exactly sure how this misnomer got started but may be due to the fact that the engine serial number starts out M44/52. That 52 indicating that it is a turbo S motor, as they are different than the regular turbo motors.

Better change your name so you don't look like a dope.

Is it possible that the 952 is the Japanese and U.K. (right hook) 951?

952 is the UK 951 cabrio.
otherwise there is only 951 or 951S (250 hp 951)

even if many call their 951s a 952 it is NOT a 952!

That seems to be the way it is w/EVERYTHING about these cars- you ask 10 different people about something specific, and you get 10 different answers... It can REALLY be annoyinjg when it actually happens to be something important...

This comes up from time to time, why not put it to bed. Anyone in the UK have the sticker on their RHD 951..or should I say 952. The engine decal should also state the model.

Thanks for the responses, all of them. I think the reason why I've heard 'em called a 952 so often on the internet and elsewhere is what IceShark said about the engine serial number. But this is the first time I've heard that a right-handed 951 going by a 952 name. Interesting. Not sure now if I should change my user name.

Anyway, just spent hours looking at all the different topics here. Pretty amazing community we got going on here! Danno, man, you are like everywhere. And you know your stuff, along with a bunch of you guys. Just finished reading about your escapades in the OTC, and also some of the others who participated (thanks to your links to their websites). Cool stories. The guys at web page (hope the link works) have some funny-*** stories also. It's good to hear that KRC (Kart Racing Company) is still around. My brother used to work for them and I took one of their shifter-kart schools. The best bang for the buck I can think of.

OK, thanks again everyone and I'll talk to you later.

ROW turbo cars have a VIN in the following form (for an '89):

WP0ZZZ95ZKN1xxxxx

Where the 95 and the 1 are the 3 digits of the model number 951. If anyone has a car with a VIN with a '2' instead of a '1' then I'll agree there is a model 952. Anyone?

Hey Tom,
So you're saying the "Z" after the 95 can be any digit? Because I've seen a 2 after the 5 before, which led to my confusion (along with 52 on the engine serial number).
Thanks.

water944T read agaain my post or do not ask again the same thing!
a)there is a 951 with M51 engine
b)a 951 s with a M52 engine (it is not a 952)
c) a 951 UK Cabrio with M52 engine (this is a 952)

why ist this so difficult to understand?

This is an interesting web page on the subject. It talks about how the 945 IS the right hand drive version of the 944. HOWEVER, there is a lot of debate over the existance of a 952. It also mentions the right hand drive cabrio theory.
