I have seen cracked fuel rails by the damper mount, I am assuming that happens when removing the damper since is such a pita to take out, I always thought it was better to remove the fuel rail to change the damper line.
It also could be from someone cranking down on the fitting while trying to remove the line. I'm sure you are familiar with out easy you can bend the damper at the rail. Do it too many times, or on one that is corroded pretty bad, and that's a recipe for cracks.
