Default rod small end bearings?

aka piston wrist pin bearings or bushings.... I don't ever hear anyone talk about them here. Do they ever wear out on 944s? I'm about to do a rebuild and I don't even know where to buy these bearings, or if I even need to.

While I'm asking, does the wrist pin ever need to be replaced?

Edited. Oops, brain lapse. Was thinking of the pressed in pins (not a Porsche appliation), rather than the floaters.

I cant imagine doing a rebuild and NOT having the rods reconditioned (including the little end) and the WP bushings are listed on PET. I see pelican sells them.

They are called bushings and they usually are in pretty good shape. Replacing a good bushing that has the correct clearance does not make the end product any better.

Wrist pins also don’t show much wear – but if you are replacing the pistons then replace the pins. If the pistons are going to be reused then the pins will most likely be fine. If the piston wrist pin hole is more likely to be worn than the pin – steel vs aluminum – steel usually wins.

This is good to know (since I didn't replace mine in my rebuild!).

Thanks for the info. Mine look pretty good (the bushings and the pins) so I guess that means I'll be reusing them.

Is there any technical way to check them (as opposed to just looking at them)? I don't see how I could plastigauge them.

Mic the pins, then mic the ID of the bushings. I've always sent rods out....its cheap to check for straight and square, even if the bushings are good.
