That's the best kind of "totaled." For your minor inconvenience you can both fix the car, and upgrade bits of the car with the extra money.

My stock '86 951 was totalled a few years ago. One of the best things I did was explain to the appraiser the "high ticket items" -- i.e., the parts on your car that are particularly unique or valuable (for me, it was things like P-script sport seats, or uncracked dash, etc).

Then, you can speak with your local PCA and request an official market value analysis for your car. This is particularly helpful if your insurance company uses KBB, which as 944 owners, we all know is crap.

A good insurance company is always a good thing, too -- I had State Farm and they treated me quite well. To give you a feel for how things wound up for me, I received $15,000 for my stock '86. KBB at the time was ~$6500; I bought the car back for a little over $3k.

Good luck! Really sorry so hear she's gone; really glad to hear no one was hurt.

Update for everybody!

Adjusted Claim Value $10,570

Salvage value is $1000

I'm pretty happy with the offer. That salvage value is VERY tempting for a track or parts car though, just don't know if I have the time to do it right.

Stock or modified? My car was totaled on 11/10. Allstate is up to $12,500 for mine and I am pushing for more. I just finished a major rebuild so that is pushing up the price on mine.

If it has an LSD that is worth almost the salvage value right there.

My car had Autothority chips and a shimmed wastegate, so basically stock...

You should buy it back from them. Definitely worth it for the parts.

I agree, just lacking time.. If anyone here wants it, I'd much rather see it go to someone who would share it than a crusher

What made it a write off? I can see the damage to the rear bumper but it does not look bad...the crack in the passenger seat looks worse? Looks like a great car to get back on the road unless I am missing something?

Buy it back, at least now you have a chance to undo that huge mistake you made giving the car to the insurance company for $1000...

You could even take your settlement money and DEFINITELY fix it for less.
