My insurance carrier refuses to provide full-coverage on my 86 951. They say they do only liability on anything older than 10 years, unless there is a note on the car, which there is not.
Who here has full coverage on their car with no bank note, and what carrier do you use?

When I had a street car I used USAA which had full coverage. Now that my car is a track only 951 I recently went to American Collectors for DE coverage. Check out their pricing, it is a very nice deal!

My 951's paid off and I have full coverage through State Farm here in Houston. I also have my house and three other cars insured, so that may have something to do with it. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Boy, there is a new one..an Insurance company not willing to take your money.
My rule is if it doesn't have a lean, no full coverage. If I trash the car, so be it.
Here is what happened to me years ago.
-Car skids in rain and hits a curb trying to avoid another car. Other car leaves, I don't because my front wheel drive has moved 6" to the rear...totaled without a scratch on it.
-I spend three month trying to get the correct replacement value for it, get estimates, many phone calls, my laywer gets involved in it.
-They settle for less then I want, my rates go up.

951racer,
Does your insurance cover you while racing or just for DE's? Does the DE clause specifically say that track DE's are allowed?
Re: Some of the other post about Ins. on "paid off cars" Could someone enlighten me on how that works? I can't really see why a Ins. Co. would rather pay a bank than a person, actually they could push a individual around more than a bank??
I can see why a Ins. co. wouldn't want to repair a 10k blue book car with parts that at retail cost more than it is worth. I think that's why chop shops can make money, cause the individual parts cost so much compared to the total value of the car. Not even counting labor. Anyone ever think what the cost of labor is to repair a car compared to "build labor"???? ENDUSER

The DE insurance is specifically for DE events. Racing is NOT covered. This insurance is not for street use and is meant to supplement normal insurance for street cars that drive on the track since most insurance policies now exclude any track use. It is pretty simple; give them the claimed value (what you have invested in the car) and if you crash you will receive: 1. Value minus $1000 deductible for to and from track, in the garage, or on the trailer. 2. Value minus 20% deductible while on the track. Increase your claimed value if you want to cover the deductible in the event of a crash. Pretty sweet deal when you see the prices. I have an 89 951 which I have invested around ~$20k into (parts, I do all my own work). I figured I would be happy with $15k if I crashed it, so I asked for $18k of coverage. I pay $270 per year for unlimited DE events!

I use state farm with no problems at all...
They insure the '86 camry too!! liability only but I'm sure they wouldn't complain if I asked for full coverage.
DE insurance sounds interesting if I ever get into it hard core...

I got full coverage for the 86 951 for $232/year. limits are 100/300/50 with comp, collision, personal injury, uninsured motorist etc. The car qualifies as a classic car b/c it is 15-20 yrs old. 0 deductible and 5k miles allowed/year.

eclou, who is your carrier? I'd need more miles per year though.. i couldn't stand to drive this car on 5k/year! I'd need like 10k at least.
i'll have to contact state farm and find out if i qualify for a classic policy.

My state farm insurance is full coverage/classic vehicle replacement cost for normal stuff and covers rallyes and concours. No DE and I haven't asked them about autocross.

State Farm full coverage. And it is a grey market car. I have to pay a little more for that but the never ask questions and just cut you a check. You pay for it in the long run. But in this world it is pay me now or pay me later.

Danny, State Farm has no classic car insurance. They have antique but the car must be 20 yrs or older. I am using a broker here in Houston called Vecillios(?). I will get you a number for them.
