Probably not much.

A guy I run against has his class winning C5 Z06 in the same shop as mine was (the shop that did the recent cam swap/valve spring shop)... with a destroyed transmission.

Torque, a heavy foot, and wide sticky rubber is the recipe for part breakage.

I could see where that would be a big problem.

As far as mine goes.... I'll check it. But its the same adapter plate I've used since 2006. I put in a new pilot bearing when I put the new LS6 engine in but I only replaced it because I couldn't get it out of the old crank without destroying it. I didn't check the old one, but it looked fine and there were no obvious problems with it.

I'll check my current pilot bearing. However... I only have a few hours on it so it might not tell me much at this point.

The problem is exacerbated due to having very big sticky tires that hook up with out much wheel spin.... as evidenced by the last transmission with a completely shredded 2nd gear.
Sorry to hear, Tony. But I gotta to say, that's a small price to pay for quick lap times that you post

Those fracture lines look like fatigue (brittle) rather than stress breaks.

So a cause (or at least a contributing factor) could be too light a flywheel, which easily transmits the combustion pulses.
Although the long transaxle absorbs some of the pulsating twists, that is not healthy for the transmission either.

Trying to get faster....

I need to sell the car and move into a car that can beat a fast cup car with a pro driver. That's just not gonna happen with a 944 platform.

That said, I'm going to sell the car. Just got the trans back today... a S2 trans, the Guard 50/80 diff, custom axles, new spec stage 3 clutch with new aluminum flywheel, new aluminum pressure plate, etc.... and... the new 420RWHP LS6.

It's so damn fast for any race car, let alone a street legal, full interior (almost) race car. It will be a shame to sell it. But I must go faster. And to do that... it's gonna take a more current platform.

What I wish I could do is to keep the car, and drop a cream puff 968 chassis onto my 951 V8 drivetrain/suspension, making a killer daily driver.

If I don't sell it... that's what I'm going to do.

I saw your for sale web page. It's been up for a while I think.

I guess you are looking into a certain class? Or just looking to go faster altogether. V8 FD mazda. Almost un beatable dollar for fast. Turbo K series NSX was one I really should have done. My next car wont be a car at all. Insane all wheel drive tube frame crazyness. 5 year plan sort of thing.

Are you looking into a Porsche Chassis next? or something different?

I'm probably going to buy a wide body cayman race car with a GT3 engine, aero, suspension, etc... that's partially built.

I'm looking to dominate the GT3 POC class (which is probably equiv to NASA GT4 ish)

My V8 951 competes in GT2 (the next class up from GT3) but can't beat pro level driven 996 cup cars. Just ain't gonna happen.

I would say suspension layout and design is the main reason why it's hard to build a 944 to compete with Cup cars.

What "design"?

A hybrider is putting in the entire C5 drivetrain. Anything's possible.

I mean the design, not the components, of the stock suspension, mainly the rear suspension which is crap. You also need to re-design the front suspension to work optimal for a race car.
If you remove it and replace the complete design with something else - like a multi-link or double A-arm setup , then yes anything is possible.
