Post Help! I think I blew my engine

Earlier today I noticed a ticking sound coming from the engine that rose in freqency with the RPMs. The engine ran fine today, I gave it some gas coming around a corner and the engine stalled out. When I started it back up, it wanted to stall again, so I kept the throttle into it and it sputtered the last 1/4 mile to my house, not going more than 10mph with it floored.

Any ideas? Maybe a stuck lifter? I hope it isnt the dreaded #2 rod bearing.

Might have something to do with running 19psi of boost. I don't think your injectors(if stock) could keep up with that. You may have run into a lean mixture problem. Aside from the ticking noise, the running problem you described happened to me when I blew off the boot from the IC pipe to the Throttle body. The ticking could be a lifter tapping.

Well, I checked the vaccum system again and I noticed I had blown off the blowoff valve (no pun intended). It was dark last night I guess that is why I didn't see it the first time. As for the ticking sound, it was a lifter, and I added a lifter freeing product to the oil and it fixed that immediately.

BoostGuy,

Glad this was a non-problem. What was the "lifter freeing" product you added to the oil?

Try Rislone for noisy lifters...it works well and doesn't thin the oil too much. Worked for my 1993 Audi quite well.

Rislone worked on a stuck lifter in my 951. Good stuff. Run it easy for about 50 miles, change oil and filter, and you should be all set.

I used a product called sea foam. It is available at any napa auto parts store. It actually freed up the lifter about 2 miles after I added it to the oil.

Glad your problem was your BOV, I know how you felt. I also have a lifter tap, I was going to go for the Marvel Mystery Oil, but am leary of putting additives in my car.

Guys.. would this lifter tapping be more notisable in cold starts? I have a 85 n/a and its common for it to rattle in cold starts even more if its been a while since the oil change..
