new motor cuts out @3000rpm (FIXED!!)

So after i rotated the distributor cap...it lit right up. Went for a short ride, and when i get it up to 3000rpm it cuts out and back fires. If i barely move the gas peddle before 3000rpm...i can get it past the 3000rpm, but if i press a little bit too much it cuts out at any rpm past 3000. Talking to a porsche 944 buddy, and he thinks it is the tps. Went on LR website (tech info) for setting the idle. It says you should hear a click when you open or close the throttle cam. I dont hear any clicks, so tomorrow i will check that.
Is there anything else that could do this, other than the tps?

Fuel filter? Positive batt leads, arcing/touching the firewall, or engine? (That usually would only happen under heavy sudden boost runs.) injector harness, or injectors? I would think it's fuel or throttle related.

Does it stay running if you just hold the gas? Mybe a boost leak? Mine was at 4000 rpm 3000 is different. But anyway check the throttle body to hardpipe coupler. Mine looked good but it was blowing off under boost.

1) Fuel filter....new with 2000 miles on it...but sat in the garage with a full tank of gas for about 5 months.
2) Positive battery leads were dirty....cleaned them.
3) TPS now clicks.....will it still click even if its broken?
4) Injectors were left in the fuel rail with the other ends covered with a large face cloth....if they are dirty, why would they still work up to 3000rpm and if you feather the gas peddle just a little into acceleration(i mean a tiny bit ) i got it up to 4100rpm once so far?
5) Turbo has not got into boost yet because it cuts out at 3000rpm...no boost leaks yet.
6) The ground wire for the maf is bolted to the balance shaft cover....does that sound right, or is there another spot that would ground better....probably a stupid question!
I have persistent oil leak on the turbo feed line right where its attached with a banjo bolt to the balance shaft cover next to the turbo. So i dont want to start it again until i can find the right washers( crush washers?) for the banjo bolt.
Ive tried the old ones but no go....tried a couple copper washers but no go...still leaks. Its not leaking very bad now with the copper washers...but enough to wait for the right ones.
thanks for all the suggestions.

distributor cap was on wrong by 180 degrees....turned it and it fired up right away.
its this cutting out at 3000rpm when you give it a bit of gas past the 3000rpm mark.....unless you feather the gas peddle ever so slightly and then i got it up to 4100rpm once.
ill get the right washers for the banjo bolt to stop the oil leak, then start it again to see if cleaning the ground wires and the positive battery lead.
if that doesnt fix it......i dont know where else to look.

Where does Vitesse say to ground the maf?
I say order the TPS it would not hurt. Without testing it you won't know.
Will call you tonight
Sorry last night had to head out. Will send you the pics.

Unplug the tps and go drive it around. If it revs above 3k, then the tps is bad. I've never grounded a maf off the engine before, you might try off the frame. Then i would go after fuel filter, pump ,etc.

thats a good idea...tomorrow i will unplug the tps and see if thats the problem.
ordered the tps, fuel filter, and oil banjo bolt washers.
talked to john about the maf ground wire, and he said to the balance shaft cover is fine
not sure how old the tps, but it looks very clean and new...ordered one anyway.
talked to the porsche shop that put it together last time, it ran fine except for the timing(race gas mode and wrong setting on the chip), thats why it blew up on me.
but it would go all the way up to 6000 rpm and full boosting. im almost positive i set it up the same way as the porsche shop did last time.
so he is going to look at it to make sure i didnt hook up a vacuum hose in the wrong spot and just take a look at everything.
will see after the shop takes a look at it.
ill let you guys know after the shop.....thanks guys

The unplugged TPS should make the car idle higher, but otherwise run fine...if it's bad.
Ofcourse with the Vitesse stuff, the experience could be different. Don't know. That's what it does with stock AFM.
