i'd like to know also...thought it was a Hgasket at first judging by the F1 style smoke plume that came out the exhaust. thrust side of number 3 cylinder.

thanks...as luck would have it, one of the guys i worked with when i was doing this for a living is building a line of custom 928 parts including pistons...he has apparently found the contractor that did the coatings for mercedes benz that allowed mercedes to use a conventional forged piston in a reynolds high silicon block.

i think i'll be using a set of his pistons to put the thing back together. anybody have a lead on a 2.7 NA block>

"i'd like to know also...thought it was a Hgasket at first judging by the F1 style smoke plume that came out the exhaust. thrust side of number 3 cylinder."

Was this the same cylinder that had the dead spark-plug? Not that a dead plug can cause any harm really, just seeing where all the planets are lining up. How did the headgasket look on the side that had the crack? Might be highly coincidental, but I know another guy that cracked his block this last weekend too... was there a full moon?

I suspect this failure has something to do with why Porsche siamesed the cylinders together on the later 3.0L blocks. Didn't someone post another photo of a cracked block under some thread like "How much boost can a block handle?" a while back?
