Buzzing From Rear
OK
This is getting annoying. I get in my car this morning and see steam out the exhaust and think Head Gasket. After checking everything there isn't any water in the oil. So I more then likely do not need a HG. OK catastrophy avoided.
I got in my car to go down to the auto parts store and when I pulling away from my parking spot I took my foot off of the gas to shift gears and the motor sputters. But quickly goes back to normal idle. Drive to the auto parts store no problem. Come back outside and get in my car and start the car. It started like normal but the idle was irregular for a couple of seconds. So I am sitting there in my car wondering what the hell could be wrong now. That is when I heard what sounded like a pump wizzing away in the rear passenger side of the car. I thought have never heard that noise before. blipped the throttle and the pump picked up speed with the increased speed of the engine. I thought that must be the fuel pump. Well. I have never heard it before why can I all of a sudden hear it now? I drove the two miles back to work and buy the time I got into the parking lot and stopped the buzzing was louder. Now here is the kicker it only runs when the engine is running. If the ignition is on but the engine is not there is no buzzing. I am assuming that this is the fuel pump. Is it getting ready to quit? I was going to take the car to Charlotte tonight but not anymore I guess that I will have to take my truck. What do you guys think how can I diagnose it? I already called my wrench once he will think that I am nuts if I call him again with a different question. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kool,
99.9% sure it is the fueal pump. You have the classic symptoms of one on its way out. Good idea in taking the truck to Charlotte--hard to look cool sitting in a Porsche that doesn't start, or worse, is stranded on the highway.

That was exactly what I was thinking. Does anybody have the part number for a fuel pump. Where should I go to get a new one?

Where is the fuel pump on the car anyway. Is this going to invole removing the tank and all kinds of other things or is replacing it relatively simple?

I rut the fuel pump that Ian so kindly sold me into my car last night. And the condition still exists. Car idles fine no knocking no nothing. Put your foot on the gas to rev it up and it starts missing like crazy and spews whitish blue smoke out the tailpipe. The smoke seems more white then blue. I still suspect the headgasket. Although my coolant is still green as it always has been and the oil was clean as well. I haven't let it warm up to see if it is only a problem when it is cold. I will do that tonight. Danno anybody what do you think. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />
