Passed CA Smog with Vitesse set up !!
Hi All
Just wanted to say ( yes, after more years, then I care to admit )
I took my car to get a smog tested by the smog ****'s and I passed.
In fact, I not only passed, but in the 3 categories that they test, I passed by a large margin in two of the three categories... The only reason, one of them was even close, was because Tom wanted to be safe side and run it a little rich....
I only have the boost set-up to 9 psi and I can't tell you how big the smile is on my face!
This kit is gonna be unreal Great product John... I'll let ya know further details, when I turn up the boost
Oh, and I would be remiss, if I didn't mention that if it wasn't for Tom M'Guinn, I would still be polishing my trophy...
Thanks Tom
Best regards
Ed

Actually, Ed is an old track rat, so it is tuned to hold up to that kind of use -- no changes at all for the smog test. His motor has a super smooth idle at 840, exactly to factory specs as needed for the test, but noticeably smoother due to Vitesse's fueling strategy. California has the tightest smog limits in the country I believe, yet he met them all without any special tweaking. He was already way under half the limit on 2 of 3 tests, so if he tweaked it, he would likely be under half for all three. Not bad for what must be the most track-tested system available for these cars!

Hopefully soon.... Sadly I do seem to have a major issue to address....
The dreaded Rear Seal leak !!
I should have had this car up and running over a month of so ago. ( Well really 6 years ago )
Had a fuel line rupture and had to replace the fuel lines.. Then after everything was done, I couldn't get the system to go into closed loop ( or so I thought) It turned out the it was a not fully tightened down pipe to cat connection ...
Which gave the wrong readings on the AFR ... After Tom & I spent days switching out components to narrow down the issue we found out that some idiot ( your truly ) didnt tighten that connection completely... (weeks wasted )
Yes thanks ... Pictures to follow
I hear ya, but I left the whole kit in! MAF, Injectors, Chips, etc
and I still passed... That included a 10 and 25 mph load test on a dyno that they do here .... I was very impressed with John's Kit
Hi Scott
Actually, I have been chomping at the bit to get this thing finished, before my son becomes a man ... I think the most revealing moment was hearing my son said to me, " Gee dad, for as long as I can remember, that car hasn't moved out of that space in the garage. It's so strange not seeing the car in the garage" !
I still have to tear into everything that I just put back on, now that the rear engine seal is leaking ... It's truly a love hate relationship with this car ....
Thanks Guys
Best regards
Ed

Congrats!
When I was running the Vitesse MAF I passed the smog test here last year with flying colours.
The controller was actually a friendly guy who runs nicely modded Euro Fords and joked that the CO level was "too low"!
With Tom near you I'm pretty sure you are unlikely to get anything wrong with your VR set up anyway

So it goes like this.
Eddie drove the car to get it tested. It passed. He then made this thread.
30 seconds later, he completely tore the car down and hand cleaned every bolt. It will run again in 2020!

Clean? Just being "clean" is no where near good enough. It has to be plated, polished, sealed, clear-coated and waxed to go on Ed's car. And that's before he adjusts the fasteners for proper feng shui. Seriously, when he finally breaks down and posts a picture or two, you will be floored. The full nature of his pysychosis cannot be appreciated without some pictures, which is why I suspect he is so reluctant to post them. Of course, I say they deserve their own thread, because they WILL generate discussion....
