I have a contact who works for an independent Porsche parts supplier who can get 993TT or 928GTS callipers (i.e. big red or big black) for a pretty good price...
I cant decide what would look best tho! Black callipers saves the hassle of having to paint the rear callipers but would red callipers look better? I have 17" Technology style wheels btw.
What do you guys think? I am getting these in early Jan. Please post your pics if you have either on your car, especially if its white!

Pretty good price means £150 sterling per calliper new. Just over $200US. Genuine discs are £85 ($120US approx) and Pagid pads £50. I will be getting the adaptors and rotor hats from Lindsey Racing.
C'mon guys opinions/pics! Black or Red!! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
Also recommendations what bias valve to use? Mostly street and occasional track days...

IIRC, the 951S has the big blacks. I would go with those just to be consistent with the 944 turbo's evolution.
Also, calipers are tough to clean. Those "big reds" would soon become "big maroons" whereas black always looks black, clean or not.

Actually I believe StanUK951 is referring to the 928GTS brakes that were the same size as the Big Reds, but just painted black instead of red. Those brakes are bigger then the 951s and 928s4 brakes.

Exact... they are bigger than the Turbo S / Turbo 250hp calipers.
And i also believe that the big blacks are easier to mount on a 944 (compared to big reds) because they are almost plug and play (coming from 928 gts) whereas the big red comes from 911 and need adaptors...

I drive the **** out of my car, and I have no problems with keeping my big reds clean. Still bright Porsche red.

Rage, what kind of adapters are you using? Pete and i are looking for suitable ones (for our wallets
)
Any chance you have measurements available of your adapters?? We are considering to fabricate our own adapters (we have a qualified manufacturer available)

In order to mount the Big Reds(993TT) on the 951, you need to mount it " upside down" compared to the way they mount on the 993TT. Which necessitates removing the bleeder screws( which will point towards the ground) and remounting them on the top.
The Big Blacks come with the bleeder screws already in the proper configuration( also the Pistons will be in proper configuration-up/down)
All this is due to the fact that calipers on the 951 mount towards the rear(looking from the side of the car)while the 993TT mounts to the front.
I hope that what I said is understandable.
Eugene.

I love the look of big reds, and my "small blacks" (stock on the 89 Turbo) are filthy and are always that way no matter how much I clean them. My brake pads are the dustyest cheap things around but they're good because they heat up quick for autocross. Don't try to slow down for an exit from 150 mph though
I say get the big reds....they just look way too cool and I'd say they'll be easier to keep clean. If you think the install will be too difficult, then get the big blacks and have them powder coated red, and have the PORSCHE machined off....it'll look way cool!
