The 948 hits High Plains Raceway outside Denver
Pretty much my last event of the year sadly. It was smoking hot this past weekend, like oppressively hot! Car ran well, but coolant and oil temps were toasty, although not as bad as my friend in his C5 Z06 vette.
I managed to cord all 4 of my Toyo RA1's and use up my front brake pads this past weekend.
First time using my new to me IO Port rollbar camera mount, it worked out great!

Sound is what it is. I've got an external mic zip tied to the license plate. Without that mic, all you hear is wind noise.
I plan on replacing the radiator, I already have an oil cooler. In comparison, my friend with a C5 Z06 saw oil temps of almost 320 that same day and coolant temps similar to mine.

Have you tried putting a band-aid over the mic? Very cheap and effective wind guard.
I would guess that the reduction in water temps will help the oil temps. From what I have read, 280 is OK with synthetic but much more then that can lead to reduced engine life.

It's a double whammy where I live, summer ambient temps of close to 100F and the thin air makes cooling the motor very difficult.
I do use synthetic oil and from what I hear from the vette/camaro guys, the temps I'm seeing are typical...
I'll try the band aid trick, thanks!

Do you have any lap times? I was there for the PCA Clubrace a couple of weekends back. It would be nice to see comparisons from 4 cylinder to 8.
My car suffered both engine and brake overheating during the race, which is a first for me. I put it down to a combination of high altitude/thin air, high ambient, and drafting. I am switching to a Wizard radiator, and changing brake fluid, so hopefully it doesn't happen again.
Like Karl says, fun, fun track. I prefer Hallett with the grass and the foliage, plus its a shorter haul, but High Plains is close behind.

I'm usually around a 2:06 on decent RA1's or NT01's. I've never run Hoosiers, but I imagine they'd shave 2+ seconds off my time. Car weighs 3250+ lbs with me in it.

The mic sounds like it may be being overloaded by the pressure component as opposed to the velocity component...
-Either way, try taping a small piece of open-cell foam over the mic as a 'blast-filter'. -The stuff which comes in little tear-out cube shapes in camera equipment cases is usually perfect.

I'll try that next year, thanks for the tip! Sam, the car with me in it is usually around 3250-3350 lbs depending on fuel load.
A really quick lap around HPR is just under 2 minutes, like a 1:58 or 1:59...

Class records for Stock cars are 2:01.6 for Joe Rothmans F stock 944S2 Firehawk car running 2800ish lbs.
Estock which is Euro 911's, 944 Turbo's, S2's etc is 2:02.5. Buckley has that with his 911 Euro.
I stock is 2:00.4 Phil Blackstone has that with a 993 RS CS.
To get below 2:00 really takes a GT car.
