Park it next to one of these:

That is a real live '72 911 S/T there in my driveway.

The story:
The car is owned by a local region PCA member. He broke his car at our region's last autocross last Sunday. The owner is a GREAT guy, very, very friendly (not to mention a FAST driver) so when a few of us found him on the side of the road, we all pulled over to help (our PCA region is pretty awesome like that.)

After some roadside troubleshooting we took a guess that the alternator was dead, so we decided to slap in a cheap battery from Autozone and limp it back to my house (since I lived the closest) where he would store it until he figured out what he wanted to do (either pick up another alternator, or once we charged the battery, attempt to limp it home.)

So it sat in my garage for a few days. I knew it was a rare car, but did not know the full history of the S-T. I was just happy to look at it... I *love* the long-hood 911s and want to build an RSR replica some day. How little did I know that the S-T was the official precursor to the RSR. My dad did some research when he found out I had one in my garage and it's a little staggering.

- Precursor to the RSR
- Only sold to professional race teams, not available to the general public. Sorta like the modern day Cup car.
- It's 1 of 35
- Apparently worth close to $500k

What's funny is that the owner, who has owned it for many, many years, didn't know it was anything special when he bought it. He just thought it was a cool car. It wasn't until he got to talking to a historian at Parade one year many years ago that he found out it was something rare and special. LOL!

Anyways... thought I'd share.

Very cool. Has he dug into the history of the car, yet? I'd be all over that!

Were you at Putnam Park with the Windy City guys?

Nope - we were up at Rockford Speedway with Chicago Region.

That photo is on 173 just west of I-90.

As for the history of the car... I don't know if he has or not. I would imagine so? I only got part of the story from him - where he told me he found out it was "1 of 50." In my own 30 seconds of Google'ing last night it seems it's actually only 1 of 35. Now that I know a little more about the story behind the S-T I plan to ask him a LOT of questions the next time I see him!

Actually, all you've done is reduced the value of the 911 by 50x.

Absolutely. He drives the hell out of it. He's usually FTD.

Did you swap the DME relay and wiggle the reference sensors? JK

Very cool car and even cooler that he drives it. Just curious, has he fixed it yet or is it still in your garage?

It actually turned out to be a cooked fuse. We figured it out when he came to pick the car up on Tuesday. So it's no longer in my garage. I miss seeing it in the morning on my way to work

Wow, that thing is beautiful and it's great story, too, about the car.
