Failed Colorado Emissions!!
Hello: I have a 1986 951 without a catalytic converter, Steve R chips from 1999, and Tail waste gate, other than that the car is stock. Prior to testing the car had 2 gallons of Premium Gas 91 Oct. and 2 gallons of E 85. Today I failed Colorado Emissions Testing with reading HC GPM of 3.6115 and has to be below 3.0000 and the CO GPM was 23.2540 and has to be below 20.0000 everything else passed. Does any one have any suggestions, I prefer not to have to install a removable Catalytic Converter, but if I have to then I will. I have already a suggestion to unplug one injector and add a can of emission pass gas additive. I have ten days to do a retest.
Thanks for all the ideas.

Thanks for the reply don't know what the FQS is set at, I assume that is in the DME and what should it be set at?. To lower boost could I just disconnect the line to the wastegate I have now **** to adjust it just a restrictor in the banjo bolt.

you can't get by the test computer with a performance chip. period. I just smogged my car last week here in Cali. You can't fool the smog test anymore, you have to be in a stock config. They just tightened the standard here, they want all the old cars "high emmiter profile" off the road.

Gerd, my best advice is to listen to Rogue. He helped me pass emissions without a cat. drove up, dyno'd, and passed with flying colors. I had a FPR that was too high, and a 20 year old oxy sensor.
Start with replacing the 02 if it's not been done. you can get one for $30 at advance auto parts. Porsche recommends it at 60K.

After reading all the posts I think I will change the oil, replace the spark plugs, install the old chips, and get a new O2 sensor. Then try again within the ten day period and see if it will pass.
Thank you all for your suggestions.

Don't take the car through again without talking to Rogue and setting the car up to his recommendations.
Otherwise put a cat in it along with the stock chip and you'll pass fine.

Just reviving an old topic but did they even look for the cat at envirotest?
I think they typically look for that.
Will running on E85 pass the test? I need to get an emissions test tomorrow (before I leave for the rest of the month) and have a tank full of E85 and the cat is in the garage rafters.

The two things they look for are the cat and O2 sensor... Every time I have to go and show them where the O2 sensor is, lol.
Yes, you can pass on E85. In-fact, E85 tends to make passing a little easier, IMO - as long as the tune is correct.
