Default AC Power Loss

I haven't used the AC much in the 951 until I moved it to Atlanta and now it's a necessity although I hate running it because I feel like I lose about 50 horse power. It also shakes like a bastard at idle (I have new motor mounts ready to go in).

Is there something wrong here or is this normal to lose that much power? Is the compressor not spinning as freely as it should or something?

On the plus side, the AC system has never been serviced and blows colder than any car I've had, new or old.

I don't have any actual numbers, but it's a pretty big HP suck. Happens on my VW GTI 1.8T as well. Off-boost performance is reduced significantly with the A/C on.

It's a 4 cylinder with low compression and lots of turbo lag. I think it's probably normal. I know when it's hot enough here that I feel I need to run the A/C, I drive the car fairly gently anyways. No need to beat the hell out of it when it's 90+ degrees outside.

And yes - R12 is awesome. The A/C in my 951 works better than the A/C in my Audi A6.

I agree with Omni...without boost she's just a low compression 4 cylinder weakling. Now "with" boost, another story
