Congrats on your car and your research - a lot of good information there.
I think you need to go and re-read the entire thread, though. It's really you who "threw the first stone" so to speak, and you who seem defensive and hell-bent on pulling the rug out from under the [quote] What we have here is the basic "I'm a Porsche owner and I'm better than a VW owner" syndrome. It always comes up with the 914/924/944 people.

snobby Porsche owners.
Parts interchangeability is great. You know a lot about the marque's history - so what?
How many 200,000+ original miles, original engine VWs do you see on the racetrack?
Don't get me wrong, I like your hotrod. Sometimes things can be more than the sum of their parts, however. With your car, AND with mine.
and by the way, 924/44/51/68 owners get this kind of stuff from both sides, the 911 owners who don't want them in the family, as well as the Audi and VW guys who hate just being cousins...
Try reading the threads again and see if there are any hot-heads besides yourself. I didn't see any.
BTW, are you in the states? I'd like to check out that bug in person sometime. What would be REALLY cool, is if that could be done with the Karmann Ghia, or a Type 3...!

Everyone,
I believe this is where i eat my words..right?
I just looked up the info I had and found that i have errored in my previous statement. Big Time. I, for some reason, was under the impression that the story was Audi not VW. Superman is what he has stated, Super. I am sorry to all who have read my previous statement. I tinnk that since Audi assisted in the production of the car, that lead me to think it was an Audi(not having to info in front of me). that said...
The parts # information is correct too. I have known this. This is where i do believe that even though the cars share like parts and similar # it is not to claim that the car is one or the other. ie...porshce parts in a VW bug doesn't make a bug a Porshce. So a VW/Audi tranny in my 951 doesn't make it a VW. I don't have that "it's a porshce not a VW" snobby attitude but i do believe it to be true. I don't tell people that the car is basically a VW. It isn't true. And the same should apply for the VW owners. Now, if you had a Mercury Mountainer and said it was a Ford Explorer then that would be a fair statement because it is the same car with different badging. Since there is no VW car to compare to the 924/944/968 series that statment should not be made. I do say that the 356 looks like a longated bug. so...
I don't want to disregard VW or Audi. Just that i do not say one is the other or visa versa. Different cars, parts or not.
Tabor, I looked up the head and the Part # do not reflect a Porsche design, which years if any and how did you learn about this?
now i think we are all getting on the same track, at least me that is.

the 924 idea of being a VW was true. It really was going to be a VW but, the day Porsche took over the project completely, it became a full porsche car. Remember porsche design it. It was not a VW invention, though VW funded the project. The front engine and rear tranny idea was Porsche's from the get go. (928)
From "Original Porsche 924/944/968" by Peter Morgan (pg. 13)
"In early 1972, the studies with Porsche were formalised into development contract EA425. Design and styling development then proceeded rapidly, entirely performed by Porsche at Weisach but fully backed by VW."
I reiterate, "It is not a VW."
You should go get this book it is full of useful information and is fun to read.
here is the book at Amazon.

Just because the part number is a VW part number doesn't mean Porsche didn't design it. This is what I was trying to say in my post. The 924 is filled with VW part numbers, some of which Porsche designed. Ex: the 924 fenders.
I get my info about the 924 head being a Porsche desing from the 924.org guys who try their hardest to interchange parts whenever possible.
