The winter was long and hard on my 87 951, so hard in fact that I am going to have her completely repainted due to some side damage caused by a reckless driver and the beginings of rust. The current color is India Red, I think its called that, but since I am going down to metal and starting from scratch I wanted some advice on colors to choose from. The shop is a very high end operation and a very good friend, so there is no need for worry. Send pics of your pride and joy to help out.

Hi, I personnaly think black is the best color for these car (no offend to other). Mine have been repaint metalic black, I don't know yet if it's an original porsche paint, but look great. If you want some pic, E-mail me at ftanguay@ca.ibm.com, I will shine her this week end and take some new pics.

I vote for the latest metallic black Porsche uses on 996s, Boxsters and now Cayennes... called Basalt Black, dunno about the paint code. It's awesome! Super deep black, with just a hint of dark blue that shows in certain reflections.
Then again, speed yellow looks also wicked. Plus it's a very rare sight in 951s, since they were never offered in that colour

Tuna,
What do you want to know. I'm finishing a complete repaint that included taking the original as well as several re coats down to primer. Note: do not take this car down to bare metal if you can avoid it.
Check the archives as well as posts on this board from a few days ago. I've posted a parts list of things that you will need to evaluate before you start the job. There are a hell of a lot of rubber pieces that may, or may not, need to be replaced.
On a personal note don't go with Arena Red. It's a hideous color! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> Besides I want mine to be 1 of 1.

If I were going with a full repaint, I would go with either Black, Titanium, or Guards/India Red, respectively.

My favorite was racing yellow until I bought my current car...Slate Grey (steingrau). It kinda grew on me.
It looks sharp, see below, and it doesn't show the dirt like yellow or black.

btw, it's for sale! $7500

there's another "almost black" color, saw it on a boxter-S @ the dealer a few weeks back, think it was Atlas Grey Metalic? Sort of a very-metalic-DARK-silver-almost-black.
i don't EVER want to try and detail another black porsche tho..... ugh
