Post Mileage survey

How many miles can you drive on a tank of gas before your low fuel warning lamp comes on?

I have a 1986 951 with a PowerHaus k27dr turbo, autothority chips, and an adjustable FPR. My fuel curve is rich through the mid range and leans out at the top end. I typically get 300 mile before the low fuel lamp comes on.

~200 miles before low fuel light comes on when driving primarily in San Francisco. 385 miles on a recent highway trip till the low fuel light came on and I filled the tank back up with 17.8 gallons of fuel.

So, a low of about 11 mpg, and a high of 22 mpg. The high mpg of course included a couple trips past the end of fourth gear into fifth on a couple of uphills.

Normal highway driving I get about 280 miles to the tank. City driving around 240 miles to a tank. I use 93 octane gas.

I can do 350-400 miles on tank, mostly highway driving, and I never see the low fuel light go on.

My tank has been on E for the last year and a half, still haven't had to full it up. Oh! , wait, it doesn't have an engine yet. Never mind.

Wow

Note to self: Enjoy gas mileage while you can. One engine mod and its gone.

I used to get close to 500 highway miles a tankfull with my turbo. Since adding the exhaust and big wheels/tires its dropped to around 430-450. My S2 still gets better mileage, even with a bigger motor and shorter gearing. I tend to wait 40 miles or so after the light comes on to fill up, but I still only put in 18 or 19 gallons.

I drove my car from Seattle to San Jose, Ca when I bought my car. After the first tankfull I had 400 miles and used 19 Gl.This was night driving in the rain with headlights on. During the day on my second tankful I was able to go 430 miles. The car had APE stage II chip. This is a 88 turbo S.

My first car I was able to go almost 500 miles on a tankful. This was a 87 turbo with APE stage II.

I have gotten 480 on a mostly highway trip. I have a 3 inch turbo back open exaust w/one straight through muffler, boost controller, and chips. Bet I could get 500 miles from a tank if I just left, and set the cruize to 70mph, usually staying within a pack of vehicles, but it never works out that way does it?

When the light comes on (or within 5-10 miles of it), I fill with almost 20 gallons even. I usually avarage just over 300 miles from a tank w/mixed driving.
