yeah, i'm on the street with no unneccessary restrictions. Never been pulled over for noise, but I have in my Audi, which had a hole the size of a peanut in the muffler

i have a gutted cat and a supertrapp race muffler, and its loud at idle, very loud on gas, and not too bad while crusing but i get a droaning type noise from the open exhaust, the radio is hard to hear perfectly and conversation needs to be held louder, its not like a truck but it does make alot of noise, if the rpms stay below 950 it does not sound loud, but how often is that? never

I have a CAT bypass (straight pipe) w/an after market muffler. Loud is all I can say but, when the turbo kicks in the exhuast sounds so sweet!

I just recently put a 3" full exhaust with cat-bypass and aftermarket muffler on my car. It's noticeably louder than the stock setup, but not obnoxious by any means. Under WOT you can hear it, but at crusin' speeds it's not that much louder than stock. The slight noise increase was easily offset by the additional HP and spool up on my car.

Loud, but in a good way on my car. Especially when you are on the gas, and then let off and get that "braaaappppp" sound out the exhaust... makes the natives restless!

If you are really concerned about noise or listening to your SO talk whiule you drive, or listening to the radio, its a bad idea. Feels great, tho!

Regards,

Hey Mike,
If you haven't made it up to Whistler this year, you haven't missed much. We haven't had a great year, especially on the local hills around Vancouver.

Anyways...I used to have a gutted cat stock exhaust with a straight-through Sebring muffler. It was loudish. I kept the muffler (has a 3" inlet), and had a custom 3" exhaust built. Without cat, this setup is a bit too obnoxious. I decided to throw a 3" high-flow cat in there, and it's much easier on the ears now. Very throaty and deep, not too loud when cruising or at idle. However, my girlfriend knows I'm coming from two blocks away, even when I'm practically coasting in. She says she can tell it's me from inside her house, she says it's a really low-pitched growl.

Mike,

On my '87 951, I've got a Bursch test pipe hooked up to my stock muffler. Its only a wee bit louder, but the faster spool up more than offsets the minimal noise increase. IMOP it sounds like a Porsche not an Audi now.

Cheers

"i have no cat and no muffler..... car is still very quite."

Luke as a fellow guitar player I know my Marshall has donemy ears in a bit over the years but even Jesse James on the Monster Garage thought the 944 was plenty loud when they pulled off the cat/muffler.

Ian, I heard the conditions there havent been as good this year. We've had a decent season here -I've been out probably 20 days. come on down and give it a go. x games were awesome.

thanks all for the input. Got my SFR cat back on order, planning to gut cat and take it from there.

Come on over to the island, Mt. Washington has the most snow in the province! It's not necessarily the light fluffy stuff you'd like to see though

As for the guitar, my acoustic makes more noise than the cat bypass system on my car. It's a little ricey at idle and cruise but when you get on the gas, it absolutely howls. I'd say it's (removing the cat, that is) a cheap and easy way to a little more power, better spoolup, and a overall better sound.
