a zo6 is no slouch. My friend has a 01 model...now carrying lots of mods and i think you would be surprsied at how bad he beats guys with 700hp turbo supra's,996 turbo's,993 turbo's....and he is only 28...and yes he has a full head of hair...if you are concerned about that.

Say what you will about Corvettes: the Z06 is a monster...Hey Chris - did that car have the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial plates on it? The ones with the rose lying across the shield superimposed on the outline of the state? If so , I know that guy. He is a chiropracter in Louisville that I met on Derby Day...his car has a catback exhaust and some other mods if I recall...He left the party I was attending and climbed all over it. Little doubt about the tq numbers.

Danno: The mullet comment killed me. I had a cherry 72 Corvette for about 5 years. I enjoyed it as a piece of motoring Americana and for the simplicity the car provided. When I went to check out the Corvette Club to consider membership...WHHEWWW...I told my wife that I needed a combover, a gold chain, some Elvis sunglasses and a divorce if I was going to join. Sounds like nothing changes...

My name is also Chris so it's making the thread confusing for me to follow.

I have street raced in the past (i still do, but like hacking used to get all these flames (which I did/do), it's not the typical add a big Garrett turbo on top of my stock brake civic and blast out a 10 sec 1/4 mile and then figure out a way to stop now, I always safe...my cars are braking first before anything else, then handling, then the power. No pets, children or innocent bystanders ahead of me ...any side street kills the deal as I can't assume someone is going to stop for their stop sign.

I don't know about sea level but up here in CO vettes and stangs have a hard time. I ran with a viper when my 951 was stock and lost by about 4 car lengths and also played with a zo6 on the highway and he could not get away from me. I think I would have beaten both with my map kit and more boost now. Move thoes NA's up to altitude and they loose alot of ball.

Thats the same plate I've got as well. Were you in Louisville at the Summit a couple of weeks ago. I saw a nice looking white 944 on the back of a trailor. It had a few decals on it, if so it looked sweet. My 951 is white as well.

About the corvette and hair piece stuff:

I can agree, the corvette was a car I almost bought when I was younger and had savings aside for a car or house purchase (house won).

Even back then at the corvette shows...mullets and bald spots prevailed, and as did icky guys (my wife at the time was a hot blonde and those guys would pull the 'what's he drive/do? bit).

As a young guy trying to learn about the car I was literally pissed on by most and told 'maybe a car like a honda or mustang would be better for me'...they didn't want young competition I think (I was 23-24 at the time).

The corvette crowd is sort of cool, but the Porsche crowd has been the only one I have encountered that doesn't judge outside the car situation.

So are you saying they just within the car situation?

I rode in a C4 Vette at autocross about a year ago. At the end of the ride he turned and grinned with excitement and asked "How zat?" My response of course was "AWSOME!" but what I really wanted to say was "Feels like my car running on two cylinders." It was a freight train compared to the 951 - big, bulky slow. And the poor sucker thought he had a fast car - I guess he's never ridden in a 951

Now the Z-06, that's another story! I think they've finally started to go for engineering over brute strength. Away from the "There's no replacement for displacment" idea....

I'm with you guys when you say Vette drivers are of a certain breed. Something about them makes me feel like I don't fit in and with the Porsche croud, it's never that way! Could have something to do with my ownership of a Porsche and not a vette....Naaaaaaaaaaa

Anyone know what block the z06 uses?? Is it the 383, 427 or 454? Its the 427 size, isn't it? 7.4 liters? that is really quite commendable in 2003 - 405 horsepower from 7.4 liters - wow

It's a 350.....5.7L but still I guess not that impressive compared to our 2.5L that can keep up with it....less than half the size

Chris - that wasn't me at the Summitt (though I know where it is)...The guy in Vette is named Nico something or other and he has offices in LaGrange and someplace else, I think in Shively...Nice enough guy, but when I told him what I drove he didn't seem impressed. Perhaps he is now (though I do think you should not be street racing...LOL)

I need to get that plate; I think it looks much better than the ugly-a** smiley face...Was afraid my 951 wouldn't start when I put it on the car...

As for the Corvette guys, I think they mean well, but just based on my experience...Man...That's not to say that the Porsche guys are any better, myself included, but the two marques do appear to draw different types of...personalities...

Not that they aren't good cars, just that only a certain type of person drives one. I'm more than happy with my 951, especially after starting with only 500 dollars and a crappy Dodge when I turned 16 and now almost a year and 4 cars later having a 951...just a completely different road to owning a sports car.
