Default reassembly of the front of the car! crossmember, p/s, heat shields and vacuum

been busy these past couple of weeks reassembling the front bits of my car...

i got it out of the garage and back in to the driveway, got the belts tensioned, p/s totally finished up and crossmember in, along w/some new hoses, crush washers and fittings:

had to fix a line on the reservoir that cracked. a metal fitting and some 10mm silicon tubing later:

test fit the intake manifold... looks pretty hawt, imho:

reassembled my wastegate w/new hardware:

test fitting my heat shields and some of the vacuum system:

crossover pipe installed w/new hardware and crush washers:

the wastegate and it's piping is being a PAIN to install. i can't get the flared ends on the crossover/wastegate pipe to line up and even if i did, i couldn't get the crush washer in there. guess i'll need to loosen the crossover pipe and start over... sigh.

one question: what is this bracket for? i found it sorting through my parts box and i don't recall where it lives and can't find a shot in my old pics:

pics of my recent push start here:

Is that the rear support for the intake manifold?

That bracket holds together these heat shields and bolts to the oil cooler housing (2 holes, but only 1 bolt goes to the housing.

That was what I was thinking. You can see the bracket for the intake in the second to last picture. It looks close, but no cigar. BTW, that shield needs to be installed due to the close proximity to the headers and supported correctly. It will rattle without the proper supports.

You're looking for two pieces of shield - it's split in the middle where it attaches to that bracket. There is also one more mount tab on the forward piece where it bolts to the oil cooler housing.

sigh. yep, it's gonna be a PITA. i picked up a used one from parts heaven and it looks like quite the task w/the headers on.

however: i just realized that i used the 'wrong' washers for my headers (skinny home depot ones vs the meaty ones that i just found in my parts pile). i might just take the headers off to facilitate that heat shield install. i already dropped the middle of the crossover pipe to get my wastegate on, so it's not THAT much of a pain in the ***... :\

these cars are hardcore jigsaw puzzles. wtf, porsche!
