Tired of working my 951
Hey Guys,
I have just bought a '90 C2 and I've had my 951 for 8 years. I'm finally getting tired of working on this car. I am considering the possibility of selling my '87 951. What do you guys think?

the path of least resistance rarely leads to the greatest rewards.
Now that you have another fun car to drive, REALLY go through the 951, take your time, plan well and be thorough.

I can echo the 911 comment. I just bought a 911 2005 TurboS. Phenomenal car. However in my short ownership, I have already experienced one of the coolant joints failing catastrophically (common problem), and a boost hoase has just split.
Its just like owning a 944 Turbo. Difference is 911 parts are 2-4X or even more what it costs to fix a 944 Turbo. Many of the repairs on a 911 require a motor drop, which can be up to $3500, just for the drop, before repairs take place. A set of silicon boost hose is approaching $1k.
It makes me appreciate the simplicity and low cost of my 944Turbo now.
having said that I love both cars and have no intention of giving up either.

If you've enjoyed your 951 experience, perhaps you're ready to move on. 964s are great cars, too. Selling it will give you a little cash in your pocket and let you focus on other things. You can still be a 944 guy at heart.

No amount of 911 can give you what you get from a 951...I'm still plotting and dreaming of resurrecting the GTR project.
Sell it and you'll miss it forever and no other 951 you get to replace it will actually be able to "replace" it. And FYI the 911 isn't a joy to work with, WAY more bitchy than a 951 ever was.

Nope didn't get parted out - sold off parts I had already changed my mind on...I got the bad "crazy" out of my system. Now I can approach and complete the GTR the correct way, and its only possible because I have built relationships & gotten my hands on parts & manufacturing abilities needed to bring about the proverbial second coming to the 951 community.
But don't want to hijack the thread - will start a new thread in a few months when we get the GTR back home.

I love the 964, and actually was looking for one before I stumbled upon my current 951. If a good local 964 C2 coupe came up I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

as far as i know, these cars arn't that hard to work on if you've got the right set of tools. i found it more annoying to change sparkplugs in my mates nissan skyline r33 GTS-T then my 951.
I'd keep the 951, i don't know how you could sell something you've worked on for 8 years. id cry... put it that way.

Been there, done that, then been there again, and wanted to sell it again, etc. etc. lol
Take some time. Cool off, clear your head and give it some time.
Is the C2 going to be your daily driver?
My saving grace was picking up a G35 coupe recently as my DD. So this lets me take time to do things right and get the right parts etc. for the 951. And when the 951 pisses me off I have the G to go have some fun in.
So for me the new DD has actually reinvigorated me about the 951 to take it to an RS style now and go real hard core "trackish" with it. And when I want comfort and luxury, I have the DD for that.
Just food for thought. Hang in there!

Hey, there is a rule somewhere that says people named Chris can’t give up on a 951….
The perfect solution is to set up the 951 as a track car!
Hey Guns – good to see that even one of the badest 911 builds still can shake the 951 love!
