Default front mount intercooler and pipes complete

I had installed my large front mount intercooler over a week ago and wanted to wait until I finished the intercooler pipes before posting. I had been logging the temp before hand and after to see what a difference it would make.

Prior to the large intercooler I was seeing temps of 180 degrees entering the engine post intercooler. With the larger intercooler installed I have barely seen over 100 degree AIT's most days it's seeing 80-90 degrees. This has been measured on some of the hottest days so far this year. What I am seeing is temps barely above ambient.

I had read prior to installing it that It is not needed for any street car and most track cars, that the stock IC was sufficient. I had measured over and over to make sure I was seeing correct readings and with 3 different measuring devices I saw the same thing. At 25 psi I was getting 375 degrees pre ic and 180ish post. I just couldn't see that running that much temp into the engine could be a good thing.

The intercooler I went with is a 4" core 24w x 16 h. with 3" inlet and outlet.

Like I said it keeps the air at just above ambient. I am however seeing a larger pressure drop but at lower boost (map) I am seeing the same airflow though the MAF sensor. The car feels very good, even on hot days.

Here are some pics

Excellent results Sid. Nice to see something positive come out of some of these aftermarket mods even if they are homespun. If they work, they work.

Why did you choose those endtanks ? Less piping (and pressure loss) with elbow outlets on top of the endtanks . Nice fab work .

Good work! I'm guessing that the pressure drop is due to the density increase rather than backpressure. Your MAF readings back this up. Great data!

Looks mean, and thanks for taking the time to measure the changes!

Looks really good. I'm guessing you don't drive this car at night since you don't have any headlights?

What's with the custom blower where the cabin fan box normally goes?

Thanks all.

No I don't have headlights on this car. They had been previously removed. I put some bright driving lights in the center of the opening that work "ok" for occasional night driving. I'm going to try out the chevy headlight mod I saw on here at some point. Or what I really want to do is install some projector headlights somehow like my old Audi has.

I don't know much about this intercooler. It came to me courtesy of Joshua (rogue). Thanks again to him. It has been sitting at my house for a couple years now just waiting to be installed.

I wonder what temps you would see at lower psi

This car had been stripped by the PO and it is a marine bilge blower iirc. I use it to get some airflow through the car.

With this ic, it barely goes a couple degrees over ambient at 15-20 psi on a 2- 3-4 gear pull.

lol! It's tough business to get a large intercooler and pipes to fit with the least amount of bends, cutting of the body, etc.

What are your coolant temps now that you have that huge intercooler in front of the radiator?
