Post K27 turbo pros and cons? What has been your experience

with going with a larger turbo. Assuming some custom programming, is the turbo lag significantly longer. How is this on the track (say road atlanta)? Custom chips, who has the best programming for the k27?

If there is a good search function for this info let me know.

TIA
Jeff

There are various flafors of the K27 compressor. The one that works the best on the 951 is the K27-7200 compressor. On the hot side turbine, also there diferrent housings. There is the K26#6, which might provide a bit quicker spoolup, but restrictive and limiting at the top-end.
You can also use the K26#8, whicg I recommend from experience. It's not laggy, and provides good mid-top end power.

With the K27 you are limited to the 320-350rwhp. Plan on upgrading your injectors once you go over 300-320rwhp.

There are many turbos that provide you with a better bang for the $, and remain a direct bolton.

As for Road Atlanta, I have driven my car with a K27#8, Vitesse Stage II, III. The power you get from the K27#8 is not bad, however it does not compare to the others.

I'm in the Atlanta area as well. Feel free to email me directly if you have any question.

I have had the K27/6 and the K27/8 and can tell you that the #6 hotside has slightly less lag than the #8 but far less power. Dont waste your time with the #6 hotside it just runs out of breath in a hurry. 27/6 is very similar to the K26/6 so you will waste your time if you want a siginificant difference. As fast951 says there are far better turbos on the market and cheaper so maybe you should consider something else but I will say that dispite the dated tech. on the KKK it has been around a long time and is reliable. This has been my experience/opinion.

Running the 27/8, and after 700 miles, I am very happy with it. I am only pushing 8psi right now, but I can tell it's gonna suit me fine.

Lag is almost identical to my Huntly 26/8 Cheater 2, 8psi at 3000.

Keith,
TEC will sell you a Garret for under 1K. TEC is an engineering company that makes all kinds of turbos that will blow a KKK out of the water. Dont get me wrong, I like the KKK and have had 3 of them. The work real good on the street and are reliable but they are not as efficient as other turbos today. I would rather make X amount of power at 15 psi with a Garret vs having to go 18 psi or more with a KKK for the same power. The other issue is if something goes wrong with a KKK it takes a long time to get the parts as opposed to other turbo's. Other places are Turbonetics or even SFR. I think they have turbo's that are more efficient and are about the same price as the KKK.

You can also check Lindsey Racing. I believe they also have some turbo's based on Garret for under $1K.

Other places to check are Speedforce Racing and Huntley Racing.
