Post To Jet Hot coat or not?

I have been considering Jet Hot coating of my 951 exhaust manifolds, crossover pire and down pipe. Anyone have any actual experience doing this and are there really any advantages in having it done? The main objective I have is to try and reduce unnecessary underhood temperatures but I am not really convinced the coatings would make much of a difference, especially the cost involved. Thanks for your thoughts/comments. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I'm strongly considering it.

Yes Yes and Yes! It will drop your exhaust manifold outside temps by as much as 190-200° and that is not BS - I have the temp gun recordings at home in my turbo supplement. The exhaust are done inside and out, intakes only the outside. Mine have 5k on them and still look brand new. Also the cross-over and down pipe. I left the heat shields on mine - one other person here took them off.

I have 392 hours on my 94 MasterCraft. The exhaust manifolds and the intake are done. Still as new!

I am very pleased with all of their work and I sent all of my stuff to the facility in Pascagoula MS on the Gulf Coast.

If you go the rennlist gallery, type in my user name and you can see a couple of photos.

Joe,

Just had mine done here local (Atlanta) for $200.00. Hoping to get them on this weekend, so do not have temps yet. Will try to post later in the week.

I think I must be the only person who's ever had questionable experience with this... I have a fairly rare set of Honda Racing headers and pipe for my VFR which were coated just prior to my purchase (was actually one of the requirements for me to buy them). I think I have about 50~60k miles on the motorcycle (through ALL sorts of bad weather) and the coating looks worn, is rusting, and there are a couple of parts where it's gone (either due to flaking or rock chips). I imagine that motorcycle pipes are probably the worst case screnario (hot, subject to direct splashes of water and road debris) so I'm reserving judgement in all applications. They do offer up to one free recoat (for the original person who requested the service) - means I'm SOL, but might be worth it for others.

Just don't use 'header wrap' anywhere humid, that stuff holds onto moisture and will rust anything through in a matter of a year or two (personal experience).

Brian,

Who did your coating here in Atlanta? I used Millers on Arcadia Rd, he does a lot of Hotrod/aircraft work. I was given his name by a bunch of pilots, so I know the quality is there, those guys don't mess around.

Love the VFR, rode a 90' model for Six years, sold it to buy the 951.

Actually, the pipes came out of California (HRC - Honda Racing Corp. - was based out there) and I'm not sure where the owner had them coated.

I do have to pull the head for a leaky valve sometime in the future, so maybe I'll have the headers coated at that time just for grins (can't hurt).

BTW, I still want to set up a tech-session with you on the paint stuff, I've just been really busy. Maybe sometime in the spring.

So the ones who are having problems have not sent there items to be Jet-Hot coated straight to a
Jet-Hot facility? If you have not sent them there yourself then you may not have Jet-Hot coatings, the curing process, etc. All of my itmes that I have sent, I sent to Jet-Hot in Pascagoula MS, they will even send you a box to ship it in if you need one. I use the Sterling 1200 coating on all of my items.

Another alt is Airborn Coatings in Oklahoma. They are essentially the same, but cheaper and reportedly faster. The local Vette and Viper tuners here use them (MTI, TNT, Hennessey).
