So I go to pull the oil dipstick, and out comes the tube with it. I should have noticed but the PO didn't replace the bolt on the intake, after searching dipstick tube, I suppose I can see how someone could give up. Does anyone have suggestions on how to reinstall it. Thanks,

yes. that easy. i did mine last week during a turbo install. its a little fiddly with the brake booster heat shield in the way but its still just a 1 out of 10 in difficulty compared to many other jobs on these cars.

got her back in there, shear luck i suppose. beings you cant see anything. just have to bolt it to the mani now. the tab and the hole on the mani dont quite line up. anything against bending the mounting tab? I can't imagine it would pose any problems.

You could use a flashlight. It will provide light for dark areas. Hence you will then be able to see.
The tab should be pushed down to compress the o-ring before installing the bolt. It will line up once you do this.

The ‘mechanics mod’ is to modify the tab on the dipstick tube to be a slot instead of a hole. That way you can leave the bolt 90% engaged and slide the dipstick tab between the bolt and the manifold and then you just have a couple of turns to tighten up the bolt. The slot should be facing down.
The other tip is to install the tube with the dipstick inside – the dipstick will guide the tube into place much easier that trying to poke the tube in to the hole by its self.

Yes i read about the slot in the tab, and thats exactly what i did prior to reinstalling it. as for lart951, it would be a great quote, however, last time I checked i flashlight doesn't help see through a nontransparent object. At any rate, thanks for the advice s14kev, I never thought of that....

If I shine a flashlight between the brake MC heat shield and inlet plenum I can see the hole that the dipstick tube fits in to. Not sure why yours is hard to see. If I try to shine my flashlight through my intake manifold you are correct in that I cannot see through it.
