The ‘mechanics mod’ is to modify the tab on the dipstick tube to be a slot instead of a hole. That way you can leave the bolt 90% engaged and slide the dipstick tab between the bolt and the manifold and then you just have a couple of turns to tighten up the bolt. The slot should be facing down.

The other tip is to install the tube with the dipstick inside – the dipstick will guide the tube into place much easier that trying to poke the tube in to the hole by its self.
