Post Turbo Cab?

Was there a factory 944 Turbo Cabriolet? I've been looking through model descriptions and 944 history on the web and Rennlist archives and couldn't find any mention of a turbo cab.. however, magazine 911 and Porsche World, October 2001, states that a Turbo Cabriolet was introduced in 1991.

I also remember seeing pictures of a red cabriolet (recall aftermarket C2 turbo wheels on it) said to be a factory Turbo.

Does anyone have info about this model? How many were built? Were they sold in Canada? How much would they go for today?

I've spoken w/several people about this over the past few years, and have been assured that, YES, a 944 Turbo convertible existed. They were not released in the US- we have such pansy-assed little safety restrictions. Anyway, I have been told by several people who should know, that there are actually several floating around the US, but they are VERY few and far b/t. Most of the one's you might see in the states probably started life as a NA 944 S2 convertible, and then got the turbo treatment in one form or another. If you are seriously considering trying to find one (I would absolutely LOVE to own one), then you might find it easier to buy a nice S2 cab and have it turbo charged (maybe w/8V head) and have a mean turbo 3.0L cab- much stronger than a factory turbo. It could cost a few bucks though, but if anyone has a factory version in the US (and were willing to sell it) they would probably want big bucks for it anyway...

Sorry, I didn't realize you were referring to Canada- I can't honestly answer the question in that regard...

if you are seriusly considering a factory car, try looking on mobiled. or autoscout24.de.

You may be able to find a factory car cheaper here, but then add all of the import and shipping costs. It could be easier to find this way, but might not necessarily end up cheaper!

Hi All,

I can confirm that porsche did make a 944 turbo cabriolet , because I own one!!!

They made a total of 625 , in 1991 , of which 100 were RHD for the UK market. This is the model I have.

The have the 2.5L 250bhp 16v turbo charged motor from the coupe.

Official performance figures are 0-62.5mph in 5.9 seconds , max speed of 162mph , max torque of 350Nm at 4000rpm.

I have a copy of the original sale brochure and I few pictues of my own car that I will scan and upload when I get a chance.

It uses the 2-valve head, sorry. Porsche never used a 4-valve head in a production Turbo car until the 996TT. Or if you consider the 959 a "production' car...

Even the factory 968 TurboS was a 8 valve head, none of the factory 944/968 Turbo's were 16 valve. Steve you better take another look under the bonnet.
