![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I have been looking at different options on how to make my car perform better. MAF or stand alone
KKK or Garrett. and all of the other choices. And when you add in all the different Tuners and supopliers I am a little overwhelmed. I want to hear from the masses what is the best setup for my car.
My car is a 86 951 European with 160,000 mi no rod bearings and uses 1.5 quarts oil per 3,000 mi.
I am going to use it as a weekend toy as well as the occasional autocross. It already has Koni Yellows all around and heavier springs up front. Haven't put the torsion bars in yet.
One thing that I don't want is a car that has soo much power that it is next to impossible to keep in a straight line.
I want a reliable and fast car that still has all the traits that I love about this car. Just faster.
Where should I go who should I buy from and why?
I know there is someone out there who can lend me some advice.

What's your budget? You have Konis, so you've got good start on suspension,,how are your brakes?
What is the compression of the engine?
Might want to check rod bearings and replace the oil pan gasket. If it hasn't been, at your present miles,,your head could probably use a refresh. But for performance:
$2700 - 3500,,You would have your choice of slightly larger turbo, MAF(APE, SFR, LR), wastegate upgrade, manual boost controller w/boost gauge, AFPR - to increase fuel for stock injectors. Chips or controller included with the MAF.
Autothority(APE) probably the easiest MAF to install yourself - car will run a bit rich and lean out at higher rpm. You can go to the dyno and APE will burn you a custom set of chips for $100/swap.
Powerhaus has a K27 and MAF(APE based) that purchased together offer good hp. Wastegate?
Speedforce Racing has Garretts(I think) with their MAF, Tial wastegate, and will probably work on price with combo purchase as will Lindsey Racing.
Lindsey Racing has MAF, Kokeln turbo Stage I, their wastegate, and you might get their Stage I intercooler.
Your only limited by your budget. Have fun.

Ski
The rod bearings are 10-2- thousand miles old. The car leaks nothing and runs very strong. I have been looking at all the options that you mentioned and I would say that my budget is between 3 and 4 grand. I want to do it all at once. wide fire turbo all at once. My problem is every MAF and turbo does something different and they all claim that theirs are the best. Are the prices for MAF's and such on the websites final or are they negotiable? Are you happy with your Kokeln stuff ski. Even without the water cooling for the turbo?

Reliability means you should only install chips and LBE for the motor. Not the right kind of car for autocross. Make it lower and stiffer including turbo cup anti sway bars and the car will most likely be faster than you.

Funny Don
When you get done fixing yours we shall see. You should be used to looking at the back of my car by now.

is it just me, or does Lindsey racing's MAF look exactly like a PRO M unit with a sticker over the fuel controller?

If you are curious about mods, my friend in the PCA Carolinas (Western SC) region is working on his 88 951. There is a rally scheduled through NC on May 18th (See PCA.org). He will have his car back together. New Custom Garrett Turbo (3" inlet, 3" outlet) with a Custom MAF and rebuilt engine here in Greenville. Like I had said before, we are looking to get more people with 951's within this areas PCA. Occassionally, we will have Autox comp's with the local BMW and Corvette clubs. They are normally held in the Clemson Staduim's parking lot. I am currently having suspension mods done first before any power mods (other than the MBC, Fuel Pressure Regulator, and Autothority). Waiting to see what kind of numbers my friend gets out of his car before I do the MAF and Turbo upgrades. His car will be ready for the Rally on May 18th. Just curious Kool, what local shop are you using. There is only one that I can think of (ProTec)?
Good luck on your mods. I know of a guy that here locally that does Porsche and BMW tuning. He also builds engines for Team Spartanburg (Local BMW race team).
Good luck with your mods. Hope to see the end effects of your and Curly's cars.

Frank at ProTech has worked on my car since I got it. He does a really good job and has never steered me wrong. Give me some info on the PCA thing I am really interested.
