Post European 951

Do you European 951's have catalytic Converters?

I don't know if I am looking in the right place. But when I look under my car I don't see anything that resembles a catalytic converter. I have heard it said that Europeans do not have cat's is this true and if it isn't where WTH is the thing?

My '86 951 (87 model year but with 86 offsets / suspension etc.) does not have a CAT and has been in Switzerland all of it's life. I guess it's a country by country thing

It also doesn't have an O2 sensor (which I later added since the hole is already made in the downpipe but is plugged with a bolt at the factory).

I think they have it from 1989. At least in Germany and Sweden.

Duke, I suspect I've seen you before...zatzy!

Catalytic converter or not, it has to do with each countries own laws/regulation concerning what a vehicle is allowed to emit.

My 951 -90 has a catalytic converter, all cars made after 1988 must be equipped with it.

My Euro '86 951 has a cat installed and O2 sensor added. It has different plugs on the O2 sensor than my other 86. Check for option code C02 on the little sticker behind the spare tire. My Euro car has this option code but the US models dont list it as it was mandatory.

Thats not correct. My 86 951 has the CO2 code and its US. It has us rear bumper, fenders, english. I think I remember reading in the manual it was bought in chicago originally, too. Im in milwaukee, so makes sense.

My wrench said that I had a European 951, but I don't think that I do. The vin was listed under us. Carfax says that it was first a lease out of Chicago. Everything that I have looked at says that it is a us model. The only thing that I see is that the temp control is in Celsius. Is this weird or are most temp control numbers in Celsius?
Is it really a Euro model?

What type of Bumpers does it have? Another way that you can tell is that Europeans have turn signal indicators behind the front tires on the fenders.

The reason that I know mine is a European is that when I go to get insurance for it and they put the VIN in their computers the number doesn't register.
