Time for Brake Pads...Suggestions/Tips?
Howdy...Brake pad indicator light came on in my 951 today, and I've been sorta planning it anyway...SO:
1) Any comments on brand? Pagid? Hawk? I drive the car for pleasure with an auto-x or 2 thrown in for good measure each season.
2) I don't believe I need rotors, but I've not inspected yet...If so, any comments on brand? Drilled vs frozen vs stock etc?
3) Any particular advice on changing just the pads? Anything "tricky" re: the pad change?
Thanks for your comments! B

I also did a forum search and the impression I am getting is that as long as things are adjusted properly, stock stuff should be fine for my purposes...However, any comments/tips would be appreciated...B

Stock is pretty good. Hawk HPS are a nice all-around pad, but probably dustier than stock.

I came across this site yesterday re: Kevlar pads, and am curious to know some feed-back from those in the know. They are very expensive, but I'm looking for something that doesn't squeal.

alpenweissisnice,
I've always heard good things about Metalmasters -sold by Paragon for steet/light autocross. Good friction, long life, low dust. Never tried them myself but I think I'm going to use them for street pads this year, and Hawk Blue for track use. Be wary of the dual purpose pads such as the Hawk HP+. I've used these for the past couple years and found they were too much of a comprimise - too noisy and dusty for the street and not enough bite for the track.
As far as difficulty, it is pretty simple. My only advice is to get yourself a good set of Linemans pliers from sears. Makes it much easier to get a good grip and to pull them out. Good luck.

I've had the Metalmasters on my car now for street about 1-1/2 years now. They are pretty good, (better than anything else streetwise), although they still squeal after they get hot. Still looking for better. I was looking for something ceramic when I crossed this Carbon Kevlar® site, http://www.vehiclecraft.com/Brakes/kfp.htm
I'd like to know if anyone has any experience or knowledge about them?
