Talking Koni Yellows

Does anyone know if the koni yellows and springs off a 1989 951 will fit on a 1986 951?? They have just been rebuilt and I would love to put them on my car.

Been there, done that.
Works great.

I went with the 25.5 torsion bars on the back as well. Made a big difference.

Ended up going for more spring rate 2 years later. But they're perfect for street use...

Are the Koni yellows (8641-1414S and 8040-1035S) sold by paragon a direct drop in for an '86 turbo? about how long can I expect to take to install em? My shocks are on the way out...

You can not buy the Koni yellows any more. The only thing that Koni sells for are cars now is Koni single adj. inserts. They are not coil overs. I just installed Koni inserts on a Subaru and it took 4 hrs. to do everything. You need to have the right tools for the job. Cut off wheel makes it much quicker.

In this months' Excellence they do an insert install on their project 944 N/A, with the kit from Paragon. Looks pretty straightforward.

I removed the old "guts" from my Koni adj. struts yesterday and will be bolting in the new inserts tomorrow when they show up via UPS. You drill a small hole in the bottom center of the strut and release the low pressure gas and drain the oil.
Then you put the strut in the vise and grab some big channel-locks and unscrew the "permanently" installed top cap (this works on the top that has two spanner holes in it). It'll move, just need a little
grunt to get it. Then drill out the small hole you created to 14mm(9/16"). A drill press helps.
Then you bolt in the new inserts. Done.

All, Koni Yellow factory struts ARE still avaliable from dealers.

They have been discontinued, but dealers throughout the country have them in stock, you just have to find them.

My local dealer, Crescent City Porsche, in New Orleans found me a set within 30 minutes for around $187 each.

Great guys there, the dealer sponsors PCA racing throughout the south, and the parts manager Jon, races PCA F class himself.

tele: 1-800-966-7222, ask for Jon

Cheers

Keep in mind that the factory Koni struts are not externally adjustable for rebound like the old 8741-1136 Sport complete struts and the new 8641-1414 Sport insert. Not to say that they aren't desireable because they certainly are, but there is a difference.

Jason, lol, sorry forgot to mention that, but some people aren't as mechanically inclined as others and wish for the more straight forwad replacement.

I've seen this "not avaliable" posting 100 times and never made a comment, til now.

I put the factory koni's on my S, and installed your kit with the ride height on my turbo, with 200# springs the ride, turn in, is virtually identical, just as I had hoped.

BTW if your still interested in the PS rack & pinion stuff we talked about via phone a month ago, give me a shout.... 944t@bellsouth.net
