Post A few Newbie Questions concerning 928/944/951

First question:

are 928's any good? AFAIK, there are 928 Turbo's (PLEASE correct me if I am wrong)

second

is it...no, it is....anything is with enough money....how difficult is it to convert a NA 944 to a 944 Turbo? what would be involved in this?? can the parts from a 944T or 951 be transferred without any serious problems?

reason is, I would really love to buy a 944T/951, BUT, they are somewhat hard to come by (for a low price, that is...) I would have VERY little problems sourcing a NA 944 in my area for cheap, but I NEED (yes, need ) a turbo car. So, thats why I am asking about the 928T (if such a car exists) and the 944T/951 (i'm rambling, aint I? ) I am not afraid of working on the car and doing modifications myself. I love messing with my Neon and I'm quite adventurous and creative when it comes to cars (or so I like to believe).

So if anyone could decipher what information I would like to recieve, please leave me some of that info !!

thanks all y'all

So many opinions here. I highly recommend you search the archives for info here. This topic has been beaten to death numerous times.

1)928 did not come in a turbo form(at least not to the public that I know of...besides if you've ever seen the engine bay of one of these there isn't exactly a lot of free space). Good touring cars, comfortable, heavy. Good power, but not quite as nimble as most people think. I've driven a couple and they are nice but probably the most expensive water cooled porsche to maintain and the performance wasn't overwhelming for the price.

2)I used to think that the 944 and 951 shared a lot of parts, but after buying a turbo I will tell you that they are drastically different. Anything can be done with money...a very select few have done it but it requires a tremendous amount of work. At the very least you would have to dissassemble the motor to put lower compression pistons in....way too expensive...buy the turbo and get the good brakes and suspension too. You'll be happier in the long run. A cheaper power adder for stock 944's is a supercharger from www.speedforceracing.com . I don't know much about them, but a few have bought them apparently. If it were up to me I would buy the turbo 944 any day. Just take your time and shop around...the prices do tend to jump around but a good shopper can find a good deal.

there is no such thing as 928 Turbo.
well at least the factory didn't do that

second: a 944 n/a and a 944T are two totally
different cars, there are numerous differences..

so if you don't exactly have a pile of $ and plenty of time, wait and buy a 951 (=944T).

hope this helps..

OK thank you for that information. I was hoping to find an 'archive' section because I was quite sure that I was reinstating a dead horse, but I can't seem to find the Archives...If someone were to point me in the right direction (kinda like showin the drunk guy at the party to the restroom..) I'd greatly appreciate it. Well, I guess I'll keep my eyes open for a 944T/951 (same thing, I know) then. It just would have been kind of nice if there was a 944/951 interchangeablity...but I guess if the 951 does come with better brakes and better suspension, well what the hell...go for that'n...

Now, out of curiosity (I know....check the archives) what type of bodykits are there for the 944/951? Don't get me wrong...I'm not planning to rice out a Porsche...lord no...but I've simply never seen one or a picture of one, and I wanted to see what it would look like...simple as that.

Thanks again all y'all

are you perhaps confusing the 928 with the 924? if you are there were 924 turbos, but theyre not really faster than 944s.

There are may shops that sell bodyparts.
Lots available from GT Racing

You could make a 944 look like a 968. Heck, if you want to be extreme, you could even go for the looks of a 924GTR or a 944 GTR.

This will get you noticed in the streets!

to the trained eye, 951s and 944 NA cars do share a lot of parts, but obviously not the parts that make up the turbocharger system etc., and usually only NA cars that are post 85.5, so your previous statement is not quite true, sybelix. unless (neonorific20) you've gots lots of cold hard cash and you'd like to blow it all, and are also into it for the "learning/education experience", go for it. most people will tell you that it's better to "just save your money and get a 951".

here's the search function....

http://forums.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=search;search_forum=18

feel free to ask questions if you can't find the answering you are searching.

cheers!

944 NA with SC conversion... (all in good fun)

well well! that 924 GTR may just fit my fance I think I'll just go for the 951 then...I really must have the turbo you see...its become somewhat of an obsession, you know... I think I may have been confusing the 924 and the 928...I thought that the 928 looked like a 944, but a little slimmer...I'm pretty sure that that is wrong now, and that I was actually thinking of a 924....the 928 is that ugly one with the round pop-up lights right? (no offense to 928 owners)

I've got my ideas down...for once, color doesnt matter that much...I love (LOVE) red cars, but I'd take the 951 in black, or red, or white, or yellow, or whatever...hell, I don't even know what colors they came in!! doesn't matter that much...long as it aint pink or green or something nasty like that.
Also, I saw a wonderful black 951 on here not long ago...low, exhaust, and some very WIDE wheels/tires with a nice DEEP rim....exceedingly sexy.

Sooo, I'll be going for a 951 this summer/fall...wish me luck mates!!

I was just making a point. I had a 944 n/a '88 for over 6 years, and bought my current car 6 month ago, and they are two different cars all together. Well, you know it, and I know it. Of course there are plenty of parts, they share, but there are also plenty of parts they don't..
(brakes, suspension, gearbox, clutch, bodyworks, you name it.. )

So like you said, if you got the time and the money, why not..
It's just easier to go straight to 951..

Thought I love 'em both..
