Post Just bought my first Porsche, have a few questions

Today I picked up a white 1986 944 turbo. It has 85,000 miles on it. I was wondering if it was possible to get some more boost for free like I did on my Supra and my Eclipse. On the Supra I just removed the vaccum line going into the wastegate. On the Eclipse I cut a little hole in the same line. Is anything like that possibe and is it harmful. I also have the white "phone dial" wheels. Are these rare? And one last question, where are some good websites for mods to this car?
Thanks

really have to buy chips to "up" the fuel if you are going to up the boost. a simple boost valve type thing (Reliaboost/Lindsey Boost Enhancer) or an mbc will allow you to control boost. about 15psi will do with a set of aftermarket chips. get a aftermarket boost gauge as the stock one is hard to read/and not as accurate as a mechanical one.

You can raise boost a slight amount but the factory overboost control won't let you. Also I think its unsafe to do so (not enough fuel as Samgrant said). Your best bet is to get some chips, an MBC, an aftermarket boost gauge and dial in 15psi..and you'll be good to go. The aftermarket chips will get rid of the factory overboost control give the car some more fuel and possibly retard timing a bit to allow for the extra boost.

If the wheels are standard phone dials painted white, then no. If the wheels you have are the super-rare magnesium turbo cup wheels...then yeah. The turbo cup wheels are 16x8 front and 16x9 rear as opposed to 16x8 rear and 16x7 front for the standard phone dials.

What year supra and eclipse did you have?

I had a 1995 Black on black hardtop 6spd TT(1of18)
It was fully built with a T-78 single turbo. I sold it with 48,000 miles on it about 4 months ago. I've also had a few highly modded 300ZX's. I still have my 1990 Eclipse fwd turbo. It ran a 13.34 @102 on stock turbo and street tires. I never got to run the Supra with the single turbo. On the stock twins and all the bolt-ons I ran a 11.55@120 on slicks two years ago.(no nitrous) I don't plan on anything like that with the 944 I just want a little more power.

Just so you know, the 944 isn't all that great of a drag car, and It would be a real shame to see you blow it up just trying to get some good 0-60 numbers.

I would get a set of guru chips and go from there. (www.gururacing.net)

Also, be sure to get the water pump and belts taken care of if you don't know when they were changed last, and if it's the stock clutch after 85k, start thinking about $ for that.

Another Guru recommendation here - the chip kit (~$300) will "wake the car up" significantly.

Hey, I've got a 1990 Eclipse FWD Turbo also. It's my snow car. If you've gotten it to run a low 13, you have learned alot of what you need to understand about getting better performance. As far as getting it for free,. . . Porsche HP costs sign. more than DSM HP. Everything is more $$ - suspension, brakes, exhaust (and no "DSM Trader" to get stuff cheap, but Rennlist is by far the best source of info. you will find on how to do things right and not burn up your mill.

I know its not made for that. All of the belts, water pump and timing chain was replaced @60,000 miles. Thanks for the info guys.

Can I ask why you sold your supra? A black/black 6spd would be the only combo that'd really interest me, that's a rare car.

I had the wrong person build the motor. I had the car 3 years and went through 2 motors and sold the car "as is" with a blown motor. But a very well know Supra owner bought it and will be using it as a drag car. Look for it this season coming out of Texas. He should run low 9's easy and possibly high 8's in the 1/4.

Sorry to hear that Chris. When I read your description of the supra I was <img src="http://www.mustangworld.com/forums/images/smilies/drooling.gif" alt=" - " /> , so I had to ask.

As far as 951 tuners go, I only have experience with Speed Force Racing and I'm very pleased with their DP and 3" cat-back. If racing regs would allow me to turn up the boost with bolt ons, I'd most likely go with a MAP kit and chips from Guru.

Welcome to the 951 addiction. Those websites that ski listed are perfect for mods. Definitely check out technodyne racing's website. Great detailed information for Street/Track Suspension upgrade. I have all but the 968 rear sway bar and LSD. Soon to come I hope. Good luck. All the tuners have been easy to deal with.
